Position: EICA Design Manager/Regional Discipline Lead

Location: Peterborough or Cambridge with hybrid working available

Our Client: Is a Tier 1 design and build engineering contractor operating predominantly in the water industry, who are delivering a significant proportion of Anglian Water's programme of clean and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.

The Role: They are recruiting a Regional Discipline Lead for a new, modern, low carbon flagship wastewater project. Based in the Peterborough & Cambridge area with hybrid working available. You will report directly to the Engineering Director and your role will be to provide technical leadership of the discipline in region. Ensuring that the technical discipline is the right size and shape, has the correct competencies and capacity and that standard design practices are applied in region and contribute to the development of the discipline. You will also provide all regional discipline members with the opportunity to develop and progress

The Project: The Cambridge relocation project is the design & build of a modern, low carbon wastewater treatment plant to provide vital services for the community and environment which will recycle water and nutrients, produce green energy and help Greater Cambridge to grow sustainably.
Known as the Cambridge Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Relocation Project, Anglian Water will work with their partners to help deliver this fantastic opportunity. The relocation would make the site of the existing WWTP available to form part of the development of a new low-carbon city district, known as Northeast Cambridge. The site at Cowley Road, is Cambridge's last major brownfield site, and the wider Northeast Cambridge district proposals envisage creating around 8,350 homes and 15,000 jobs over the next 20 years.

Engineering Discipline Management

Application of strategic design philosophy in discipline in region.
Competency management in discipline in region.
Technical quality in discipline in region.
Task time requirements (estimates) in discipline in region.
Application of task delivery methods and toolsets in discipline
Allocation of best-fit, competent staff to projects in region.
The use of common, secure, information management systems in discipline in region

Operational Management

Contributing to definition and implementing technical strategy in discipline.
Contributing to discipline productivity.
Tactical technical risk in discipline in region.
Client relationships and service management in discipline in region.

Experience: Deep understanding of technical discipline design.
Technically focused.
Technical design management.
BIM and digital delivery astute.
Experience of technical design in a design-build environment.
Experience in the water treatment industry (preferred).
Experience in leading and managing discipline design teams.
Degree in a discipline-related subject, or substantial experience.
Must be quality-driven with the ability to set targets, manage and motivate multi-disciplinary teams to deliver to time, cost and quality objectives.
Technical and design skills
Able to identify and manage project technical risk.
Experience of leading remote/geographically-dispersed teams.
Chartered engineer.
