Position: Director of FinanceLocation: LondonReports to: CEOAbsolute is delighted to have partnered with a multi-site care business, dedicated to providing exceptional care for the elderly, disabled, and terminally ill across several locations in England, Scotland, and Wales. In addition to residential care, they also offer nursery school education and retirement villages, supporting various communities with over 900 employees and an income exceeding £36m.The organisation is entering an exciting period of modernisation, including new IT and finance infrastructure, and are looking for a Director of Finance to lead their finance team and contribute to our strategic goals.Role PurposeThe Director of Finance will be instrumental in ensuring the financial stability and growth of the organisation. This role involves monitoring financial performance, implementing high standards of financial systems, and supporting the strategic aims set by the Board of Trustees.Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Management: Develop and implement the Strategic Plan and annual Business Plans. Lead and/or contribute to the development and implementation of agreed strategies and policies. Report on progress to the Board of Trustees and Senior Management Team.
  • Finance: Oversee the financial function, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of management accounts, drafting of accounts for audit and filing annual information. Preparing and coordinating the budget setting process. Presenting financial reports.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all taxation issues, including VAT, Gift Aid, Corporation Tax, Income Tax, and National Insurance Contributions. Serve as the lead point of contact with HM Revenue and Customs. Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements across all areas of responsibility.
  • Procurement & Contracts: Support the CEO and Director of Operations in negotiating and monitoring contracts with local authorities and service commissioners. Manage the procurement of goods and services to ensure they meet strategic goals and represent value for money. Engage with national plans for changes in service funding and ensure timely implementation of necessary changes in systems and strategy.
  • Insurance: Manage insurance policies and coordinate claims. Conduct regular reviews of the organisation's insurance policies to ensure adequate coverage and value for money.
  • Line Management: Lead and develop the Finance Team, ensuring regular supervision, appraisals and professional development.
  • Infrastructure and Systems: Provide robust finance infrastructure and systems to support organisational activities. Ensure the ICT infrastructure and systems are well-maintained and support governance and legal information needs.
 Key Relationships
  • Internal: CEO, Senior Executive Team, Board of Trustees, Heads of Department, Care Home Managers.
  • External: Auditors, banks, professional advisors, investment managers, healthcare networks, regulatory bodies.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Significant post qualified experience, strong leadership and strategic management skills with proven experience at Finance Director level.
  • Ability to think commercially and act strategically, developing innovative solutions to address key corporate priorities.
  • Experience working in a multi-site business and/or charitable organisation would be beneficial. Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams (i.e. Finance, IT, Property, HR).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. Experience working with and advising Boards/Trustees. Excellent leadership skills, with ability to lead change.
