Claims Administration Assistant

  • Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday
  • Pay: £11.59 PAYE/ £14.13 via Umbrella 

My client are seeking a Claims Administration Assistant to provide temporary administrative support in the handling of insurance claims. This role is within the Internal Audit, Corporate Governance and Insurance section of Financial Services, which is pivotal in managing insurance claims against the Council and providing a claims handling service for certain types of claims.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Enter and record complete and accurate data related to claims on the council’s claims database system.
  • Provide administrative support in the entry and processing of insurance claims in a timely manner, adhering to practice directions and corporate guidelines.
  • Assist in the registration of claims with external agencies, including the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Compensation Recovery Unit (CRU).
  • Liaise with the Claims Team, Claims Litigation section, and other parties on claims-related issues as directed.
  • Respond to queries from officers, external organisations, and the public on claims matters, providing supporting data.
  • Handle telephone enquiries, respond to voicemails, and raise accurate and timely payments within the council’s Financial Management System (FMS).
  • Report regularly to the Deputy Insurance Manager with progress reports and details of significant issues.
  • Perform all functions and duties in accordance with Council policies, Financial Regulations, Information Governance requirements, and management directives.
  • Work in a hybrid environment with an agreed split between office (Leeds Civic Hall) and home.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and objectives in line with corporate and legal priorities.
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and financial ledger systems.
  • Experience with administrative tasks and redaction techniques for disclosure.
  • Experience in setting priorities and meeting targets in a fast-paced environment, preferably within an insurance and claims setting.
  • Highly motivated with a drive to improve service efficiency and quality.
  • Team player with a commitment to meeting agreed objectives and key targets.
  • Willingness to adhere to the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy and Health and Safety Policies.
