What you will be doing

You will be working on the Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) service, which is a 10 bedded in-patient unit, with 5 separate pre-discharge apartments.

This service meets the needs of individuals who have a history of serious self-harm as part of their primary diagnosis of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) and aims to support women to improve their self-worth and build a better quality of life for themselves. There is a focus on rehabilitation through engagement, placing a strong emphasis on generating a sense of belonging through active community involvement and building meaningful social networks.

As an Assistant Psychologist you will have the opportunity to assist with assessments, formulations, and treatment to our service users, under the supervision of the Senior Psychologist. You will also assist in clinically related administration including conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching, and project work.

As an Assistant Psychologist you will be:

  • Holding a caseload of clinical work, including carrying out individual and group psychological intervention and developing formulations.
  • Undertaking collaborative risk assessment and management for individual patients
  • Undertaking psychological assessments and their write up using appropriate psychometric measures, direct and indirect observations, and semi-structured interviews, under appropriate supervision.
  • Attending relevant meetings to contribute to the planning and development of service improvements.
  • Managing and maintaining databases.
  • Assisting with audits and research projects where required.
  • Attending reflective practice sessions.
  • Supporting qualified members of staff within the service on a day-to-day basis.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A BPS accredited recognised degree in Psychology conferring Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR)
  • Previous experience within clinical and / or forensic settings
  • Clear professional goals for development
  • A willingness to meet professional practice expectations and the regulatory body codes of ethics

Location: Chadwick Drive (off Saxon Street), Eaglestone, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK6 5LS

You will be working at Chadwick Lodge and Eaglestone View, a medium and low secure services providing specialist treatment programmes for service users who have been detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) and have a history of offending behaviour.

The service offer a broad spectrum of evidence-based therapeutic interventions, involving service users at every stage. The hospital's consultant-led multidisciplinary team has a wealth of clinical and research experience in forensic psychiatry. All programmes are designed to reduce the risk of re-offending and to maximise the potential and enhance the quality of life of each service users.
