What We’re Looking For:Essential Skills & Experience: - Strong finance experience within a local authority, public sector, or non-profit organisation.
- Experience managing year-end closing processes and audit queries.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, managing deadlines with a high level of accuracy.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in IT and finance systems, with excellent Excel skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven ability to support and drive efficiency improvements.

About the Role: The Senior Finance Officer will be responsible for delivering high-quality financial support across various services. The role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead specific finance activities while ensuring consistency, efficiency, and accuracy.As a key team member, the Senior Finance Officer will also play a pivotal role in coaching and developing colleagues to enhance service standards and performance.
Key Responsibilities: - Lead on financial service activities, including corporate accounting, VAT and indirect tax, and finance system maintenance.
- Oversee key processes such as:
- Completion of monthly VAT claims and accuracy checks
- Monthly CIS returns and statutory reporting
- HMRC and VAT-related queries
- Monitoring and reporting on financial controls
- Preparation of the annual Statement of Accounts
- Supporting finance system maintenance and improvements
- Conducting balance sheet reconciliations
- Providing information to internal and external auditors
- Proactively develop and quality-assure finance processes, ensuring efficiency and standardisation.
- Act as the first point of contact for finance-related enquiries, offering expert guidance and resolving escalated issues.
- Support automation initiatives and efficiency improvements within the finance function.
- Stay up to date with relevant legislation, policies, and best practices to ensure compliance and optimal performance.
Desirable: - CCAB or CIMA part or fully qualified.
- Experience with finance systems within a local authority or public sector setting.
