To collect waste throughout the County Borough, providing excellent customer service and advice where required to residents and the public. Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities 1 Carry out Waste collection services as agreed with your Supervisor and Waste Team Leader.

2 To liaise with the Waste Awareness Officer/Enforcement Officer where there are areas of non compliance by residents of Torfaen.

3 To contribute to raising public awareness of the twin bin scheme currently being utilised throughout Torfaen.

4 To identify and provide additional assistance for members of the public who are experiencing difficulties in carrying out the separation of their waste.

5 To carry out regular audits of the number of bins, bags or boxes collected by your team, and relay this information to your Supervisor.

6 To gain an accredited professional award such as the Institute of Customer Service Communications Award Level 1. Training and advice will be offered in order to gain this award by your designated coach.

7 To work with the Education Officer, which involves school visits and road shows where you will be expected to interact with students and residents of Torfaen helping and advising on any twin bin related issues.

8 Work in a safe manner, with safe working practices. Ensure that all protective clothing is worn, boots, gloves and reflective waistcoats.

9 Work within the Councils Health and Safety Policy.

10 Ensure all spillages are removed, however created, where there is evidence of Waste spillages, the location and spillage type should be reported to the Supervisor immediately.

11 Report additional bins, excessive extra plastic sacks, and contaminated bins to your Supervisor.

12 Be courteous and polite to members of the public at all times.

13 If access is impaired you must pull out the bins, bags and boxes and return to collection point. All bins, bags and boxes must be emptied.

14 To work with your Team Leader when they are reversing the vehicle, Banksman training will be provided.

15 Be responsible for the Health and Safety of yourself and your colleagues.

16 Ensure safe working practices are followed.

17 To distribute promotional literature as and when required.

18 Ensure that all assisted collections are carried out and waste receptacles returned to correct positions.

19 Carry out any reasonable request by your Supervisor.

This may include gritting duties during the winter period, in house training will be provided. Resources/Equipment/Material Personal Protective Clothing Supervision/Management of People N/A Special Working Conditions Working outdoors in all types of weather, and collecting all types of waste.

The normal working week is one of 37 hours per week with an expectation that you will devote to the appointment, the hours necessary for the effective fulfilment of the responsibilities of the post. The normal working arrangements of the post will be 7.00am- 3.00pm Monday to Thursday and 7.00am- 2.30pm on Friday (1/2 hour lunch break). Your pattern of work may be subject to change to meet the needs of the service where required. Where the needs of the Service requires, you will be required to work hours over your normal working arrangements to enable all rounds to be completed on the given day, up to and in accordance with the Working Time Regulations and Driving Hours where applicable. Any overtime payments will be in line with the Job Evaluation agreement. You will be required to work as required on Saturday to cover the Bank Holiday Catch- ups. General  To observe confidentiality in all aspects of work. 

To participate in the service area’s supervision process and/or Corporate Appraisal process. 

To demonstrate a willingness to undertake training development and learning opportunities to improve skills.  Comply with and support others to observe Health and Safety Act 2009 procedures and processes. 
