We are pleased to be supporting an established legal practice with their recruitment of a Legal Accounts Clerk.

This role will be a standalone position reporting into the HR Manager with support from the Finance Director and external accountant. You will work closely with fee earners to process finance transactions and ensure the smooth running of the department.

£24,000 - £30,000
25 days holiday plus bank holidays (increasing by 1 day per year after 5 years)
Office based role
Working hours Monday to Friday 9am-5pm (1 hour lunch) 35 hour working week
Opportunity for flexible working (office open between 7am - 7pm)
Study support considered after probation period (AAT or ILFM Diploma)

Duties and responsibilities:

Dealing with all day-to-day ledger postings to client and office accounts
Reconciling bank, petty cash and general ledgers
Compiling payroll information and monthly mileage expenses and submitting to external accountant
Liaison with pension providers, accountants, banks and arranging foreign cash transfers when necessary
Producing daily, weekly and monthly financial reports as requested by senior management
Assisting with VAT return
Processing purchase ledger invoices and setting up payment run
Processing payments and transfers daily via an online banking system
Taking client payments by phone or in person and banking as required
Working with fee earners to ensure matter balances are kept accurate and up to date
Dealing with fee earner queries and requests
General administration and housekeeping, filing, photocopying etc
Assist with annual audit
Ensuring compliance with the Solicitors' Accounts Rules

Skills and experience required:

Minimum of 2 years' previous accounts experience, preferably within a legal practice
AAT Level 2 desirable or studying AAT
Attention to detail is key to being successful within this role
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Confident with the ability to work effectively on own initiative
Good understanding of SRA accounts rules and regulations desirable
Good working knowledge of Excel - pivot tables and VLOOKUPs and experience of legal software desirable
