Company: ASPIRE PEOPLE

Job Type: Part Time

Salary: £12.50 - £25.00/hour

Job Title: Core Subjects Tutor (Maths, English, Science)
Location: Various locations (schools, community centres, libraries, or pupils' place of residence)
Hours: Flexible (part-time) Typically two hourly slots, per pupil.

About the Role:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Tutor to provide targeted intervention to Looked After Children (LAC) and hard-to-reach pupils who are currently unable to access or attend mainstream education. The ideal candidate will have previous experience teaching Maths, English, and Science at Foundation or GCSE level, ideally across multiple examination boards.

In this role, you will work closely with individual pupils to identify gaps in their learning and plan tailored two-hour intervention sessions to help close those gaps. The sessions will focus on catching up to the appropriate curriculum level, with a key emphasis on building confidence, improving academic skills, and addressing individual barriers to learning. Many of the pupils you work with may have additional needs such as Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), ADHD, Complex Needs, and/or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. Some pupils may also display challenging behaviour, so experience working with students who have behavioural needs would be an asset.

Key Responsibilities:

Assess individual pupils to identify gaps in their knowledge and learning.
Plan and deliver engaging two-hour lesson slots, tailored to the individual needs of each pupil.
Focus on closing learning gaps in Maths, English, and Science at Foundation and/or GCSE levels.
Provide one-on-one support to build pupils' confidence, self-esteem, and academic skills.
Adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of pupils, particularly those with additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and Complex Needs.
Maintain a positive, supportive, and calm learning environment, managing behaviour effectively.
Track and monitor pupils' progress after each session, adjusting lessons as needed.
Foster strong, supportive relationships with pupils, ensuring their engagement and progress.
Attend sessions face-to-face at locations such as schools, community centres, libraries, or pupils' homes.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

Proven experience teaching Maths, English, and Science at Foundation or GCSE level.
Experience working with various examination boards for GCSEs.
Previous experience working with pupils who have additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and/or Complex Needs.
Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies, especially for students displaying challenging behaviours.
Ability to work independently and be self-motivated in planning and delivering sessions.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and build trust with young people.
A compassionate and patient approach to teaching, focusing on the individual needs of each pupil.
Ability to travel to various locations and deliver face-to-face sessions.

What We Offer:

Flexible hours and a variety of locations to work from, within Greater Manchester.
Opportunity to make a significant impact on the educational progress of vulnerable young people.
Supportive environment for personal and professional development.
Competitive hourly rate, dependent on experience and qualifications.

If you have a passion to make sure no child is left behind, and would like to help young people overcome barriers to learning and are committed to making a positive difference in their lives, we would love to hear from you.
