ICAEW Academy of Professional Development is responsible for post qualification training of finance professionals and senior leadership teams. We work within the Commercial department and are a revenue generating team. The business development position will give you the opportunity to work with both existing and new clients, across a range of industries. The Academy is a supportive environment and will give you the opportunity for learning and development.
Overall Purpose of role of Business Development Manager
To succeed in this role the candidate needs to understand the Professional Development marketplace and the finance and accountancy profession and have a proven ability to sell training products and services to Finance and HR leaders.
To generate revenue and profit in a target driven environment by bringing in new clients and developing existing clients in FTSE 350, accounting firms, AIM listed and equivalent private companies.
To develop expertise in CPD within the finance and accountancy profession to ensure that ICAEW is positioned as world class in the development of finance professionals at all career stages.

Business Development Manager Responsibilities include:
- Client Conversion: Engage viable prospects and convert them into contracted clients by managing the full sales process, including conversations and negotiations.
- Client Relationship Management and Growth: Build trusted advisor relationships with existing clients, focusing on identifying opportunities to grow accounts and retain business. Actively seek opportunities to cross-sell ICAEW products and services that align with client needs. Demonstrate a strong understanding of customer needs and effectively communicate the value of ICAEW's relevant products and services.
- Collaboration and Information Sharing: Work closely with team members to share insights, updates, and information that could benefit their client interactions. Collaborate with other teams to gather and collate valuable information and resources that can enhance client relationships and provide added value.
- Proposal Creation: Develop well-structured, commercially viable proposals tailored to mid and senior management levels.
- Event Attendance: Represent ICAEW at events, networking opportunities, and conferences to meet prospective clients, build new relationships, and identify business opportunities.
- Product Leadership: Lead business development activities for assigned products in collaboration with an ICAEW programme manager.
- Flexibility: Perform other duties as required, adapting to the evolving needs of the business
Business Development Manager Candidate Profile
Requirements include:
- Understanding of sales processes including prospecting, pipelines, forecasts and account planning
- Ability to identify new clients, convert to sales and hit personal sales target
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, specifically ability to write high quality client proposals and lead effective meetings and presentations
- Strong commercial acumen including understanding pricing, negotiation with client and supplier and contracting (with support from Senior BD Manager/Academy Director when needed)
- Consultative sales approach with experience operating successfully at Senior Management level
- Ability to speak convincingly on the CPD portfolio and match the client need with ICAEW offer
- Knowledge of the finance and accountancy profession and ICAEW's role within the industry
- Experienced using CRM technology on a day-to-day basis
- Driven by targets and achieving measurable results
