Job Overview:We are looking for an experienced Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join the A&E department at St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for assessing and providing interventions to patients presenting with a variety of acute injuries and conditions, ensuring that they receive the highest standard of care. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver person-centered interventions that improve patient outcomes and contribute to safe and effective discharge planning.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients in the A&E department, identifying functional limitations and rehabilitation needs.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans focused on recovery and functional independence.
- Provide appropriate interventions such as splinting, rehabilitation, and adaptive equipment to promote recovery.
- Collaborate with the medical, nursing, and allied health teams to ensure integrated care pathways and timely discharge planning.
- Provide education and advice to patients and their families regarding rehabilitation, home adaptations, and managing ongoing conditions post-discharge.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, contributing to their professional development.
- Engage in service improvement initiatives and contribute to departmental audits and quality improvement projects.
Requirements:
- HCPC registered Occupational Therapist.
- Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
- Significant experience as an Occupational Therapist, ideally with experience in acute settings such as A&E.
- Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage a busy and diverse caseload within a high-pressure environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
