Our client, a prominent player in the Defence, Nuclear and Rail sectors, is looking for a Senior Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This pivotal senior role within the Engineering team aims to support the successful delivery of significant projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and coordinate the project's C&I design and development process, working closely with the project delivery team.
Manage and mentor a team of C&I engineers and designers, ensuring high-quality engineering deliverables across various project stages.
Gather information and develop survey scopes.
Prepare Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS), conduct visual and intrusive inspections, analyse data, and produce detailed reports.
Develop plans, functional and technical specifications, contract documents, estimates, and commissioning plans.
Design and develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Input/Output (I/O) schedules.
Interface with Safety Case and System Requirements teams.
Perform equipment and system design calculations and evaluations for industrial and commercial applications.
Engage in planning, cost development, management, and scheduling for assigned projects.
Ensure effective communication across project teams and with clients.
Oversee construction, installation, and operational testing to ensure compliance with functional specifications, codes, standards, and customer requirements.
Undertake other duties as assigned by the Technical Director or Project Team.
Meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Conduct author's checks on technical documentation.

Requirements:

Deep expertise in the C&I discipline.
Extensive experience in C&I schemes, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Functional Safety experience.
Proficiency with control and protection systems.
Understanding of electrical distribution systems.
Design experience with sensors, relays, Motor Control Centres (MCCs), circuit breakers, and control panel architecture.
Experience working on Nuclear Significant Systems.
Familiarity with Safety Case Requirements.
Proven ability to stay current with the latest developments in the field.
Strong commercial awareness.
Contracting experience, including relevant on-site experience.
Capability to obtain UK National Security Vetting (NSV) clearance; sole UK nationality required.

Desirable:

Professionally qualified Engineer (e.g., Incorporated/Chartered) with a degree in a relevant discipline (preferred but not essential).
Experience with control and protection systems for synchrolifts/lifting platforms.
Background in project design/engineering work in the Nuclear or Defence sector.
