JOB DESCRIPTION Nursery Manager

Job Purpose and Accountability

The Nursery Manager provides overall management of the nursery ensuring the setting fulfils all legal and statutory requirements. The manager is part of the Nursery Management Team and provides effective supervision, leadership and mentoring to the team of Educators in the nursery. The Nursery Manager must

have good understanding of: Regulatory and practice requirements; staff management; customer service and the factors that are important in determining high quality care and learning for young children.

To market the nursery to ensure occupancy targets are met and to maintain a highly positive profile and reputation locally

To have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

To work with the Directors and assistant or deputy managers effectively at all times and continuously present a united front to the staff

Adhering to company Policies and Procedures at all times, ensuring compliance with the Children's Act and Health and Safety legislation, all within the requirements and guidelines laid down by Ofsted and the national standards

Lead positive relationships in the early years setting

Lead the promotion of health, safety, and wellbeing of the children across the nursery

Lead the children's development, learning and play across the nursery

Manage a key person system carrying out all related responsibilities in building relationships with groups of children and their families.

Provide supervision, leadership, and mentoring to the team of educators

Duties and Responsibilities

To develop the service in line with The Curiosity Approach in Early Years, the approach to teaching and learning being adopted by the new nursery.

Assume overall responsibility and be highly visible in the nursery

To work in partnership with the Board of Directors, Ofsted and other professionals as required; and to maintain accurate documentation of all communication and information

Demonstrate and ensure good practice and compliance with the EYFS Framework through use of policies, procedures, and tools

Encourage and model appropriate behaviour and expectations

Ensure accurate and effective children's records are kept in accordance with 365 Childcare policies and procedures

To be responsible for health and safety, including but not limited to the personal safety of children and staff, equipment safety, and fire drills

To be the Lead Person for Child Protection and to ensure that any child protection concerns are acted upon immediately and appropriately. Understand child protection issues and be able to act as the designated person for safeguarding children

Respond appropriately to issues requiring confidentiality

Lead, promote and implement policies relating to diversity and equality

Participate in recruitment, selection, induction and retention of staff in a cost effective and timely manner

Update the Nursery Directors on matters affecting the nursery, including staffing and performance issues, through one-to-one meetings or immediately with serious non-compliance issues

To keep accurate records in relation to cash, fee collection and other financial matters

To monitor expendable materials and equipment and ensure that new orders are placed in a timely manner

Lead and promote parent partnerships, including organising events for parents

Actively promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers

Lead and organise the observation and planning process to ensure children's needs and interests are met

Evaluate and develop the curriculum and environment

Develop action plans with nursery educators and monitor the progress towards programme goals

Practice and role model positive behaviour management techniques

Support the Directors to work with the team towards achieving an Outstanding inspection outcome

Attend and encourage the team to attend training sessions and staff meetings necessary for Continued Professional Development

Encourage participation in all self-development activities including appraisal and supervisions

Deploy staff effectively to maintain staffing ratios, and meet the needs of the children effectively in accordance with statutory regulations

Take on specific management tasks and duties as agreed with the Directors to ensure smooth running of the setting
