Company: NATIONAL TRUST

Job Type: FULL TIME

Salary: £55,000 per annum

We’re planning a transformational programme of project delivery in the Midlands and East of England region, including at least seven £1M+ projects a year for the next five years.

As a Senior Programme Manager, you and your team of Project Managers will be responsible for planning and implementing a suite of projects across the region, focussed on building conservation and visitor infrastructure delivery. Working collaboratively with our Consultancy Managers, you’ll develop project pipelines, lead the establishment of new ways of working and ensure excellence in project and programme management.

Reporting to Assistant Director of Consultancy you’ll be part of the Trust’s internal consultancy: a flexible resource of specialist skills and expertise. As one of a multidisciplinary team of experts, including conservation, marketing and supporter development activities, you’ll be working with others to help make things happen.

As this role covers the Midlands and East of England region, your contractual place of work will be the nearest National Trust property to your home. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.

There will be a large group of stakeholders to manage and many lessons to learn and apply. You’ll be leading a team, working collaboratively for project management excellence, creating transformational and cultural change, and overseeing delivery through your project managers in a complex stakeholder environment.

The Trust is currently increasing its use of external contractors for project management and specialist advice, and you’ll be leading the embedding of this way of working across the region, including growing our team’s skills as clients and ensuring that learning is shared.

We’d love to hear from you if you're:

  • able to demonstrate extensive experience of successfully delivering complex end to end project/programme management, including defining resources, leading £multi-million procurement, securing project teams and matrix management across multiple projects/programmes
  • an expert with up to date technical knowledge and skills preferably as a Chartered Project Professional (or at a minimum by holding an APM PPQ/PMQ/MSP qualification)
  • experienced in mentoring others in the profession, and be able to show evidence of ongoing CPD in your career to date
  • an excellent communicator, skilled at managing complex and challenging situations with competing interests and a diverse range of people
  • you’re a flexible thinker and problem-solver, skilled at negotiating and building productive networks, and confident in using your expertise to influence decisions up to Executive level
  • an excellent communicator, skilled at managing complex and challenging situations with competing interests and a diverse range of people
  • a leader for inclusion, who finds ways to create an inclusive culture
