The Role: Learning Support Assistant - Secondary School - Sunbury-On-Thames, Surrey

The role of the Learning Support Assistant is to support students with moderate learning difficulties and encourage learning across a variety of subjects and year groups.

The successful candidate will be a Learning Support Assistant with prior secondary school experience, or a graduate looking to pursue a career as a qualified teacher in the future.

Responsibilities will include:

Providing students with support specified by the teacher and SENCO, and encouraging independence and responsibility for learning and behaviour.
Helping students to build self-esteem through positive interactions, praise and encouragement.
Assisting with the development and implementation of SEN support plans and personal care programmes.
The SEND team helps students aged 11-18 access learning in the classroom, and supports students with literacy, numeracy, study and social skills. Person Specification: Learning Support Assistant - Secondary School - Sunbury-On-Thames, Surrey

Specific knowledge, experience and technical skills

Five GCSEs or equivalent (including Maths and English)
Interest in, and knowledge of, autism
Experience of managing behaviours of distress
Good appreciation of, and a basic knowledge of, health and safety, data protection principles and equal opportunities
Proven ability to solve problems quickly and remain calm
Basic level of IT literacy in using Microsoft software e.g. outlook, Word, Excel
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal (in English)Personal Attributes

Willing to learn about and commit to the Ambitious Approach
Willing to work with autistic children or young adults with learning disabilities
