ROLE - Mechanical Design Engineer

SALARY - £40,000- £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

TYPE - Permanent

Location- North-East Birmingham

My client is a specialist manufacturer. They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in North-East Birmingham on a permanent basis.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:
•  Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer, ideally with strong Product Development and Project Management skills 
•  Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
•  Knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheet metal, fabrication, welded parts and machining 
•  Be proficient using 3D CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo etc.
•  Knowledge of a variety of materials - sheet metal, injection moulded plastics etc. 
•  Be able to read engineering drawings 
•  Strong leadership skills
•  Proven ability to manage multiple projects at once and deliver results on time and budget
•  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
•  Be able to work well individually as well as part of a team

Responsibilities include:
•  Lead and Project Manage the Design, Prototyping, Development, Testing and Introduction of new products
•  Designing and developing new products
•  Using 3D CAD on a daily basis for concept design and producing technical drawings
•  Identifying and managing full lifecycle projects, from bid generation to manufacture and delivery
•  Presenting your designs and justifying decisions for internal and customer reviews 
•  Updating 3D models and drawings
•  Producing detailed works schedules, resource and projects plans
•  Liaising with clients as required keeping them up to date with project progress
•  Liaising with manufacturing providers
•  Working with design, purchasing and production departments 
•  Being involved in final assembly of products
•  Presenting project plans and reports to management 
•  Reporting progress, managing risks and responding to issues
•  Checking drawings for sign off
•  Maintaining technical documentation as required 
•  Working in a small, multidisciplined team
