We specialise in providing safe, sustainable solutions across the nuclear industry, from new build projects to decommissioning. We are currently seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to support high-impact projects, offering a mix of office-based and remote work.

Role Overview:

As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems in complex nuclear projects. This is a contract role based in Warrington, with flexibility to work from home 2 days a week. You will provide technical leadership, ensuring all mechanical engineering activities comply with industry regulations and meet project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership: Lead the mechanical design and engineering efforts for nuclear energy projects, ensuring all designs meet safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
Design & Analysis: Develop and review mechanical design specifications, calculations, and analyses for nuclear systems, components, and equipment.
Project Coordination: Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including electrical engineers, project managers, and safety engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
Client Engagement: Work closely with clients and stakeholders, providing expert advice and technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure all mechanical systems adhere to nuclear industry standards, regulatory requirements, and health & safety protocols.
Document Preparation: Prepare and review technical documents, reports, and drawings to ensure accuracy and alignment with project goals.
Problem Solving: Resolve technical issues, implementing innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
Mentoring: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Essential Requirements:

Security Clearance: Must hold or be eligible to obtain SC Clearance.
Experience: Minimum 8-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with significant exposure to the nuclear sector.
Skills: Proficient in mechanical design, analysis, and systems integration within regulated environments.
Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Standards & Codes: Familiarity with UK nuclear regulatory standards, codes, and best practices (e.g., ASME, ISO).
Software: Competency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
Collaboration: Strong team player with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Contract Compliance: Knowledge of IR35 legislation and experience working within its scope.

Preferred Skills:

Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards it.
Previous experience in a lead engineering role within a nuclear or other highly regulated industry.
Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on innovation and sustainability.

Contract Details: This is an Inside IR35 contract role.
Location: 3 days per week on-site in Warrington; 2 days remote.
