Assistant Director of IT for Strategy and Architecture - Birmingham - Hybrid - Permanent
The Assistant Director of IT for Strategy and Architecture leads the Strategy and Architecture function. This role focuses on designing and maintaining the organisation's technical architecture to support its strategic goals. The Assistant Director, together with a small team of Technical Architects and Business Analysts, ensures that the technical architecture meets the operational needs of both students and staff. They also ensure the architecture is delivered in a secure and cost-effective manner, covering all aspects of the student life cycle and business processes.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead the Development of Technical Architecture
- Stay Informed on External Influences and Technology Advancements
- Engage Senior Stakeholders
- Learn from Peer Institutions
- Develop and Communicate a Strategic Roadmap
- Guide Technical Architecture and Design
- Manage the Architecture Team
- Establish Design Assurance Processes
- Drive Innovation within IT and Digital Service
- Support Student Projects
- Oversee the Design Waiver Process
- Ensure Initial Quality for New Requirements

- Communication: Effectively communicates complex information to diverse audiences, including senior university management, engaging in critical negotiations with both internal and external stakeholders to secure adherence to and commitment for the architectural framework.

Person Specification:
- A strong degree or equivalent experience in a relevant technical field.
- Postgraduate qualification or comparable experience in a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with architectural processes and standards.
- Solid understanding of business operations modelling techniques.
- Advanced expertise in IT systems across the complete ISO seven-layer model.
- Background in information management and information security principles.
- Highly developed skills in managing prototypes and proofs of concept.
- Proven leadership and management abilities, including expertise in change management for implementing innovation and new processes.
