Marshall Slingsby Advanced Composites is based in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire, where it produces complex composite structures that are predominantly used to manufacture vital parts on ships, submarines, and aircraft.

As Project Manager you will use your technical expertise, and practical experience to support the company in meeting its commitments in the design, manufacturing and testing of Advanced Composite Structures for use in the air, land and sea, for both civil and military customers. The role holder will be results driven and be able to think innovatively to identify solutions to problems with the aim of maintaining schedules, costs and ultimately customer satisfaction. The role may work independently or lead a cross-functional project team.

The role will involve working on bids/projects of varying complexity either managing the whole project, or for larger projects a work package within that larger entity. Reporting directly or indirectly (depending on skill level) to the Head of Engineering and NPI, the Project Manager has responsibility for ensuring that all assigned projects are planned and managed to meet agreed quality, cost and delivery requirements over the full project life-cycle as well as protecting the company's financial performance and reputation.

The Project Manager will generally be the primary point of contact to the customer for delivery of the project therefore it is essential that the successful candidate is delivery focused and is able to maintain a balanced and positive approach in times of pressure.

Aspects of the role include:-

  • Define clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for the project, documenting these in a RACI matrix in the Project Management Plan (PMP).

  • Set up and baseline allocated Bids/projects, and control them throughout the lifecycle of the project in accordance with the Life Cycle Management process.

  • Accountable for the delivery of New Projects (NPI) and their transition into production

  • Run Start Up meetings, daily stand-ups, monthly project reviews, Contract Status Reviews (CSR's) and Gate reviews with team ensuring full involvement and support of all service providers and independents as required

  • Taking a gemba based approach to deliver programmes

  • Demonstrate a clear overview of progress, risk, issues and readiness at reviews with clear and accurate signed off minutes issued, and all actions logged/progressed through central action log.

  • Ensure all project requirements (e.g. technical, commercial, project management, delivery etc., both internal & external) are clearly understood from the outset (or firmed up during the bid/contract negotiation phase) and documented in a Deliverables Matrix

  • Lead and motivate a functional team, managing performance and driving engagement to ensure that the team achieves individual priorities and collaborates with colleagues to achieve wider goals.

  • Work with the project team and functions to establish the project budget and quality expectations.

Qualifications / experience / behaviours Degree or equivalent by relevant experience

  • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ), or PMI Project Management Professional (or studying towards)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Project

  • Ability to complete work to schedules

  • Ability to create a delivery focus team

  • Confident and diplomatic with an ability to create, influence and foster working relationships internally and with customers at all levels of the business
