Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a Health and Safety Engineer with a background in Nuclear to be engaged on a permanent basis in the Suffolk area.

About the Opportunity


We are recruiting a Health & Safety Engineer to join our Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Solutions team supporting our key client, EDF Energy Nuclear Operations, with their nuclear fleet in the UK.
This role is part of a significant project and engineering portfolio spanning all UK sites and stations. You will be supported and mentored by experienced professionals, receiving training and opportunities to develop your management and leadership skills by working on larger and more complex projects.
About Sizewell B
Sizewell B began construction in 1988 and has generated 250 TWh of zero-carbon electricity since 1995. This is equivalent to powering every home in Suffolk for 192 years or removing 42 million cars from UK roads for a year.
Role Location
You will be part of a large client-led team at Sizewell B Power Station. The role is primarily based at the Power Station, although flexible working arrangements between the office and home may be possible.


Key Responsibilities
  • HSE Leadership: Provide positive leadership on HSE matters within the Portfolio Project Teams and promote best practices. Foster a strong HSE culture that engages all employees in continuous improvement.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and report on the effectiveness of the HSE Management System, track progress against HSE Performance Standards, and recommend improvements where needed.
  • Accountability: Report to the client Project Portfolio Manager (PPM) or equivalent Group Head, with functional responsibilities to the client HSE Lead. Note: This role does not have direct reports.
  • Highly Regulated Environments: Demonstrate a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Exhibit strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships and networks. Maintain a results-focused, team-oriented approach.

Qualifications
  • HNC in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent.
  • Current qualification/knowledge of the CDM Regulations.
  • Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate, Construction Certificate, or NVQ Level 3.
  • Membership in the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) (desirable).
  • IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management.
  • Operational knowledge of current HSE legislation associated with project work.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build networks and working relationships with project delivery groups.
  • Relevant experience as an HSE Professional in a project context, including:
    • Working in highly regulated operational environments.
    • Managing contractors.
    • Accident investigation and reporting experience.
