Lecturer - Civil Engineering

Job Purpose

The role is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and providing support to students in the field of Construction and the Built Environment. The position involves teaching, assessing, and guiding learners through theoretical and practical aspects of the course, ensuring their academic and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Learning

  • Deliver high-quality instruction on Construction and the Built Environment, including Design Planning and Surveying.
  • Assess, review, and record learner progress in the workplace.
  • Provide personalized guidance and support as a tutor to help students achieve their best.
  • Engage in the administrative aspects of the teaching role, including planning and preparation.
  • Foster a positive learning environment and contribute to curriculum development.

Student Support

  • Interview students and participate in enrolment, open days, marketing events, parents’ evenings, and program inductions.
  • Serve as a Course Tutor for at least one group of students, meeting regularly to discuss academic progress and support progression choices.
  • Address students not meeting required standards through formal interventions in line with College procedures.
  • Identify students requiring extra support and refer them to Additional Learner Support, planning for inclusive class delivery aligned with EHCP and support plans.
  • Maintain high standards of student conduct by monitoring and supporting positive behaviors.
  • Liaise with parents/carers and external agencies to provide pastoral care.
  • Assist in establishing and monitoring student work placements where appropriate.

Course Management & Administration

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date course and student records, including registers, reports, assessments, and achievement data.
  • Provide accurate course and student information as required by the College, including contributions to local self-assessment and quality improvement action plans.
  • Monitor student attendance and punctuality, ensuring daily completion of registers.
  • Complete termly reports on student progress and write references to support positive onward progression.

General Duties

  • Be aware of and actively promote the principles of safeguarding children and young people as they apply to the College role, implementing the College’s Safeguarding Policy.
  • Participate in college staff development and training schemes, including PDR procedures.
  • Adhere to the College's Single Equality Scheme, promoting inclusion for both staff and students in all practices.
  • Comply with and implement the College’s Health and Safety policy.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications- Relevant Degree- Strong communication skills in English- Organisational skills to manage workload effectively- Leadership abilities to inspire and educate students- Proficiency in IT for teaching and administrative purposes

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 3 months

Pay: £36,943.00-£44,409.00 per year

Work Location: In person
