Role Overview:

NEOS are working a major client who are seeking an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to support the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimisation of electrical and automation systems within Biomass and Energy-from-Waste (EfW) power plants. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability of critical plant control systems, from boiler instrumentation and turbine control to emissions monitoring and HV distribution. This is a hands-on role requiring a mix of maintenance expertise, problem-solving skills, and project support.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, control, and instrumentation systems within the Biomass/EfW plant.

Conduct planned and reactive maintenance on PLC, SCADA, DCS, and field instrumentation.

Fault-find, test, and repair electrical components, including motors, switchgear, drives (VSDs), transformers, and control panels.

Calibrate and maintain key instrumentation, such as pressure, flow, temperature sensors, and gas analysers for emissions monitoring.

Assist with plant modifications, control system upgrades, and automation improvements to enhance efficiency.

Support shutdowns and outages, including managing contractors and ensuring timely completion of electrical and control system maintenance.

Ensure compliance with HSE regulations, ATEX directives (where applicable), and BS7671 wiring standards.

Maintain accurate maintenance records, report failures, and suggest improvements to enhance plant reliability.

Work closely with other departments, including mechanical engineers, operations teams, and external contractors.

Participate in HV switching operations (if trained) and support electrical network fault diagnosis.

Skills & Experience Required:

Proven experience as an EC&I Engineer in Biomass, Energy-from-Waste, power generation, or heavy process industries (cement, steel, petrochemical, etc.).

Strong knowledge of PLC, SCADA, and DCS control systems (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Allen-Bradley, Schneider).

Experience with motor control centres (MCCs), switchgear, variable speed drives (VSDs), and power distribution.

Good understanding of boiler instrumentation, emissions monitoring, and combustion control systems.

Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, and control schematics.

Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills on electrical and control systems.

Understanding of safety systems, ATEX, and hazardous area compliance.

Desirable:

HV (High Voltage) switching experience or training.

18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671) certification.

Experience with G99 grid compliance and power system protection.

HNC/HND or degree in Electrical, Control, or Instrumentation Engineering (or equivalent).
