Assistant Accountant

Tees Valley Hospital - Middlesbrough

Full Time 37.5 Hours

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Finance team supporting Tees Valley Hospital as an Assistant Accountant. Reporting into the site's Finance Manager, the post will help provide meaningful, practical support to the Hospital's managers, allowing them to manage their resources effectively and efficiently.

The Role

The Assistant Accountant will play a key role in delivering a comprehensive management accounting function for two sites, as well as assisting on Payroll and NHS activity submissions. In addition to these core activities you will support the Finance Manager in the completion of corporate returns, as well as ad hoc analysis as and when required. This is a practical role and is expected to have a meaningful impact on the running of each site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the production of monthly management accounts

  • Assist the Finance Manager with monthly business reviews, budgeting and forecasting

  • Timely production of monthly finance packs

  • Production of timely and accurate statistical and financial information for a range of internal and external stakeholders

  • Identify and communicate issues impacting on the efficient completion of financial processes

  • Manage the hospitals accounts payable function, incorporating the coding of invoices

  • Provide information and support to hospital managers and staff as and when required

  • Assist with the monthly Payroll function

  • Time completion of bank reconciliations (including the timely posting of receipts and payments).

  • Undertaking support for hospital projects and initiatives, under the direction of the Finance Manager and Senior Leadership Team

  • Deputise for Finance Manager as and when appropriate

  • Liaise with the Central Finance Function as and when required

What you will bring with you

  • Previous experience in a management accounting role (preferably in a Healthcare environment)

  • Qualified / Part qualified / working towards an accountancy qualification such as AAT

  • Proven ability to work to deadlines

  • Advanced Computer Skills (particularly Microsoft Office)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required

  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the business

  • Demonstrated Customer Service skills in line with the Ramsay Way Vision and Values
