About the role The Project Delivery Talent Pool provides project professionals to our regional project teams to deliver a range of projects across the globe, including large scale installations of our OSP solution into partner warehouses, the introduction of new products and changes to our existing installations.
As our Principal Installation Manager, you will be Ocado's lead on site for the delivery of the implementation of Grid Structures and Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) to our partners automated facilities (Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFC), Distribution Centres (DC) and warehouses) across our global locations. You will support the planning of installation work and improvements to our processes and methods.
You will enable and manage installation contractors and internal teams, coordinate all Ocado and subcontractor activity onsite, represent Ocado with the partner's general contractor/principal contractor, ensure safe working practices and ensure the delivery of high quality installation (ensuring high standards are maintained and correct methods used). Your technical, engineering and contractor management background will enable you to ensure installation is on time, on budget, to the required quality standards and delivered safely. You will be working on new and innovative solutions and technology across our growing number of sites.
What you will do - You will manage the install of allocated grid structures and MHE, in our automated facilities (Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs), Distribution Centres (DCs) and warehouses) to the agreed contractor cost, install method, quality standards, safety requirements and schedule. You may also support the planning of installation work and improvements to our processes and methods. You will report on the status of installation and issues/risks and the mitigation of these.
- You will provide leadership and management of project stakeholders, suppliers and a site presence in the region of 200 people for approximately 6-14 months on a construction site.
- You will have direct and indirect people management responsibilities. You will have day to day management of a team and various disciplines, proactively driving the development of the team and working with individuals to set objectives and create development plans.
- You will effectively lead, motivate and inspire a team, demonstrating clear focus and investment in their personal development.
- Be the onsite point of contact and Ocado representative with partner counterparts and their contractors eg GC/PC
- You will manage a construction/installation site (as required), ensuring safety on site.
- You ensure there is an effective installation plan considering buildability and access
- You will manage the install, commission and fault find for all MHE onsite against challenging budgets and schedules, to a high standard of quality
- You will define Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) employing best practices.
- You will produce, update and agree to the relevant Ocado Health and Safety Risk Assessment.
- You will support Supply Chain teams to ensure that installation contractors are selected with appropriate conditions.
- You may physically perform quality checks of structural grids/MHE installed in the field. This may require working at height.
- You will identify, mitigate and document MHE risks and anticipate engineering challenges.
- You will assist in the planning and scheduling of multiple work packages and contractors/personnel onsite.
- You will prioritise and seek resolution of engineering problems, communicate the technical details of the situation and seek decisions from relevant product eng teams.
- You will present and summarise technical issues and commercial options to senior management for escalations and decisions.
- You will build strong relationships and collaborate with your contractors and peers (inc partner) onsite and other project team members.
- You will proactively contribute to the development of best practice for our delivery methodology.
- You will ensure lessons learned are raised and logged
We'd love to hear from you if you have - You have experience in managing complex, multi million pound/dollar installations including applying project management methods at this scale.
- You have experience in Construction Site Management for a large group of contractors/personnel in the region of 150 people.
- You typically have relevant experience of mechanical installation of structural steel, or pallet racking and/or ASRS systems.
- You typically have experience in managing the installation and commissioning of Automation equipment or Conveyor systems.
- You have experience of managing high risk activities such as working at height, confined spaces or lifting operations.
- You have a strong understanding of national/local legislation for construction/engineering compliance and safety.
- You have an understanding of the individual responsibilities involved in planning, conducting and/or overseeing complex lifting operations.
- You have the ability to understand and work with legal teams on legal construction standards and utilising legal tools to mitigate risk.
- You are skilled in managing multi million pound/dollar contracts including high labour content.
- You have a formal project management qualification.
- You have a Bach or higher Degree in a relevant Engineering field (or equivalent experience).
- You hold a national/local HSE competency permitting you access to construction sites.
