Library Assistant
Location: Holborn
Pay Rate: £17.60
Contract Duration: ASAP - 20th December 2024 (Potential of being extended)
The post is based in the Enquiry Services team and assists the team manager in providing a high quality enquiry and roaming service to all users of the Library.
As well as being a proactive, welcoming presence in the Library, this work will include responding to enquiries in person, phone, email, chat. Where immediate answers cannot be given it will involve sourcing the correct response or referring to the most appropriate Library specialist.
General Responsibilities
- Answer standard enquires relating to the Library about:
- information resources and Library collections, including the Library catalogue, and resource discovery tools
- services, including lending, opening hours, membership, photocopying, document delivery and information skills training;
- facilities, including Visitor & Data PCs, booking study places and group study rooms, and IT facilities.
Specific Responsibilities - Enquiry Services:
- To respond on a daily basis to email, chat and phone enquiries from Library users, either using standard replies, investigating the query or referring to colleagues as appropriate. To keep statistics on the number of enquiries received.
- Proactively seek opportunities to welcome and assist people in using services and facilities in the Library building.
- Roam throughout the building assisting Library users to find the resources they need. Assist with study space/room bookings and explain and enforce Library rules to ensure the Library space remains conducive to quiet study in a suitable working environment.
- Resolve problems for users relating to Library and be proactively responsible for the library building, services and facilities, eg liaising with Estates over maintenance issues.
- Assist with the upkeep of the self-service machines and Visitor pcs and catalogues, including basic trouble shooting and reporting technical problems
