Summary

Are you passionate about driving health and safety excellence in a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation? Are you ready to drive and deliver safe working practices, a safer workplace, and behaviours where people feel protected and valued? Then this could be the role for you!

We truly care about our people, and we aim to be an exemplar housing association when it comes to health, safety, and wellbeing. We're on the lookout for an exceptional new Health and Safety Manager to drive, innovate, inspire, and deliver excellence across our diverse portfolio, with a focus on our repairs, maintenance, and construction teams.

About Yorkshire Housing

You can probably already tell that we're not your typical housing provider! With around 20,000 homes (and more in the pipeline), we're on track with our growth plan to build 8,000 new homes across Yorkshire.

We're dedicated to creating exceptional customer experiences along the way and are on a mission to build a culture that prioritises excellence, innovation, and customer obsession. You'll have the opportunity to shape the future of health and safety, working alongside a passionate team to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our people and communities. If you're looking for a role where you can deliver the highest standards, build great behaviours and cultures and you want to make a difference, this is it.

What will I be doing?

Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety and Compliance, you'll be at the forefront of fostering a strong health and safety culture, working collaboratively with our repairs, maintenance and construction teams initially to ensure the highest standards of safety for our colleagues, contractors, and customers. Whether it's through developing safety systems, running training sessions, promoting accident/incident prevention, behavioural safety or investigating incidents, you'll be the go-to person for all things health and safety. We've broken down some key responsibilities here:

Lead and Innovate: Develop and implement industry-leading health and safety management systems, ensuring safe systems of work, risk assessments, and compliance are in place and actively understood and monitored.

Collaborate and Coach: Work closely with teams across Yorkshire Housing, providing expert guidance on health and safety best practices, while shaping a proactive safety culture through training, coaching, and engagement.

Audit and Assure: Create and deliver a robust audit and assurance programme, driving continuous improvement and ensuring compliance across the Group.

Investigate and Prevent: Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and safety concerns, while working with teams to develop prevention programmes and minimise risks.

Drive Culture Change: Champion health and safety excellence, engaging staff at all levels to cultivate positive behaviours and attitudes towards safety.

What do you need from me?

  • Proven experience in health and safety management within technical environments such as social housing, residential property, construction, or maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of CDM regulations, contractor management, and health, safety, and environmental management systems (ISO45001, ISO14001).
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving skills, and project management skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in developing and delivering health and safety training, inspections, and risk management processes.
  • A 'can-do' attitude with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

It would also be great if you hold a Health and Safety degree, NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent with CMIOSH and even more of a bonus if you have a Level 4 Certificate in Housing or the willingness to work towards it. Take a look at the Role Profile which has lots more details!
