Behaviour BuddyAbout the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Buddy to join a dynamic team at a thriving secondary school in Stockport. The ideal candidate will be committed to supporting students with varying behavioural needs, helping them to overcome challenges and reach their full potential in both their academic and personal development.

As a Behaviour Buddy, you will play a key role in providing tailored support to students who require additional assistance with their behaviour, emotional regulation, and social skills. You will work closely with teachers, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other support staff to ensure that students receive the appropriate strategies, interventions, and guidance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students displaying challenging behaviour.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualised behaviour support plans.
  • Offer emotional and behavioural guidance to students, helping them to manage their emotions and improve self-regulation.
  • Support students in the classroom to ensure positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and pastoral teams to assess and address behavioural needs.
  • Monitor and track progress, providing feedback and reports to the SENCO and other relevant staff.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment for all students.
  • Promote positive relationships and social skills among students.
Key Requirements:
  • Experience of working with children or young people, particularly in a behaviour support or pastoral role (experience in a school setting is desirable but not essential).
  • Understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies.
  • Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to helping students succeed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and to adapt to the needs of individual students.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and an ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
Desirable:
  • Experience of supporting students with additional needs such as Autism, ADHD, or Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD).
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, or support work (e.g. Teaching Assistant qualification, Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning, etc.).
  • Training in behaviour management (e.g., Team Teach or similar).
