Lecturer - Civil Engineering

Job Purpose

The role is responsible for delivering effective teaching, assessing student learning, and actively contributing to the success of students in achieving their educational goals. This position supports the retention, achievement, and progression of students across a range of courses within civil engineering

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

* Teach a range of courses, including those for 14-19 learners, from entry to level 3.

* Provide students with a high-quality learning experience to help them achieve their qualifications or goals.

* Effectively teach relevant courses and programmes.

* Serve as a personal tutor or course coordinator for a designated group of students.

* Offer both group and individual tutorial support, providing regular and timely feedback to enable students to maximize their learning experience.

* Develop and maintain course materials, schemes of work, lesson plans, and other resources, ensuring they are accessible through the College's shared information system.

Curriculum Development & Quality Assurance

* Contribute to curriculum development aligned with national standards, local community needs, and employment trends.

* Follow all College processes related to quality assurance, qualifications, and examinations, including student registration, assessments, and compliance with validating bodies.

* Participate in the observation of teaching, learning, and assessment, and act upon feedback for continuous improvement.

* Engage in marketing activities and contribute to course coordination and development.

Student Support & Administration

* Assist in student monitoring, discipline, and the resolution of complaints following College policies.

* Maintain accurate course and student records, and manage associated administrative tasks.

* Liaise with employers and agencies regarding student placements, course design, assignments, and career or higher education opportunities.

* Participate in the selection, interviewing, admissions, enrolment, induction, and tracking processes for students.

Professional Development & Compliance

* Engage in continuous professional development (CPD), completing a minimum of 30 hours annually, or a pro-rata equivalent.

* Maintain records of CPD and make them available as required.

* Attend external courses and conferences relevant to the programme's needs.

* Achieve any required teaching qualifications within the specified timeframe, if applicable.

Health, Safety & Compliance

* Adhere to the College's policies on Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Data Protection (including GDPR), and Equality & Diversity.

* Ensure personal health and safety, as well as that of students and colleagues.

* Notify the College immediately if your right to work in the UK changes or ceases.

* Complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, as required.

General Responsibilities

* Perform duties flexibly to meet the changing needs of the College.

* Take on additional responsibilities as required, contributing to the College's evolving needs.

- Proficiency in IT for teaching and administrative purposes

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 3 months

Pay: £36,943.00-£44,409.00 per year
