Salary: £25,979 per annum (Plus a salary uplift in September)

Our client was founded in 1480 by William of Waynflete and is one of the country’s leading independent day schools. It is situated in an enviable location at the heart of Oxford beside the River Cherwell.

The school will celebrate its 550th anniversary in 2030. The current generation of MCS staff and pupils wish to ensure that they shape a School that is able to flourish for at least another half millennium, and hopefully many more beyond. There are around 970 pupils, boys 7-18 and Sixth Form Girls, and 300 staff who learn and work on the school’s central Oxford site.

The Role

The school is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and reliable Maintenance Operatives to provide essential day-to-day maintenance support within the busy and thriving Maintenance department.

Maintenance Operatives will work in a wider team as well as independently as required to deliver a professional facilities management service that supports the needs of the School.

This is a varied role, and candidates will be expected to display a high level of teamwork and adaptability.

Duties of the role will include, but not be restricted to:

  • Completion of routine maintenance tasks as directed by the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor
  • Undertaking of planned maintenance checks to buildings, mechanical and electrical services
  • Daily room set-up for events and assemblies; heavy lifting involved
  • Working closely with the Maintenance team, Maintenance Manager/Supervisor and Head Caretaker to participate in some of the School’s out of hours’ rota and holiday cover for the Caretaking Team.
  • General duties on a rota basis, to include, but not be restricted to: litter picking, post-delivery and unlocking of rooms

Skills and Qualifications

  • Some maintenance skills, either professionally or as a DIY enthusiast
  • Experience of working with electrical installations and controls, especially in respect of fault finding for boilers and pumps
  • A calm, helpful manner with a can-do attitude whilst delivering high standards work
  • An ability to self-organise and meet deadlines while working under pressure with minimal supervision
  • An ability to act with tact and diplomacy and under pressure, with a willingness and ability to develop working relationships with individuals from a variety of situations and backgrounds
  • Willingness to undertake Health & Safety and other relevant training
