Role - Project Manager (Rail) Location- DerbySalary- £55k - £60k + Up to 10% bonusPlease note- you must have experience in the rail / rolling stock industry and at least 2 years project management experience to be successful in your application.Your role as a Project Manager:Our client are a unique organisation in the rail industry who specialise in asset management of rail and rolling stock equipment. In this team, they provide comprehensive engineering, project management and asset management services to ensure our assets deliver industry leading levels of performance and passenger satisfaction for customers.Our client hold awards for investing in their people, they have a positive culture and take pride in offering career development and progression opportunities.Due to a retirement, they are now seeking a Project Manager to manage to maintenance projects at their site in Derby. Site travel to suppliers will be required 1-2 days per week and you will also be able to work from home 1-2 days per week. Your main purpose in your role as Project Manager is to manage heavy maintenance projects and contracts to:

  • Support the safe operation of the fleets
  • Work to deliver company lease obligations for heavy maintenance as directed by the Programme Manager
  • Ensure that projects are delivered to time, cost, quality as instructed by the Programme Manager

Your duties and responsibilities as a Project Manager (Maintenance):

  • Ensure that all projects are managed to support the safe operations of company owned vehicles on the railway system, with due consideration to respective lease obligations
  • Support the close out of National Incident Reports pertinent to heavy maintenance/overhaul contacts
  • Support the supplier accreditation process
  • Support ITT reviews as required
  • Support the supplier audit activities/process. Manage audit CARs allocated to you and your HM event to closure
  • Working with the Procurement team as required, ensure that all heavy maintenance/overhaul projects are managed in delivering their time, cost and quality objectives in a way that supports business objectives
  • Ensure that all heavy maintenance projects are reported so the business has sufficient visibility of the progress, issues, costs, risks, and opportunities within said project. The Project Manager is accountable for their project deliverable
  • Review and authorise where appropriate project contract variations to ensure they are providing value for money for the business

Asset Management

  • Delivery of maintenance/overhaul and modification projects
  • Support the development of whole life maintenance plans for the fleets, taking cognisance of all maintenance plans and feedback from projects
  • Support the development of maintenance/overhaul budgets
  • Support the development of heavy maintenance specifications, particularly any updates that are required during a project
  • Support contract negotiations of maintenance/overhaul contracts (including contract variations)
  • Support the audit of suppliers of maintenance/overhaul activities to ensure all necessary compliance is achieved
  • Manage applicable warranty systems with both operators and suppliers to minimise risk to all parties
  • Support the Programme Manager with the technical support budget for the technical issues arising on your and your team's contracts.
  • Ensure asset deterioration (e.g., corrosion) is addressed as part of maintenance/overhaul programmes in a cost-effective manner as appropriate
  • Ensure that heavy maintenance projects are delivered to protect the residual value of the asset
  • Share learning across the business on asset protection issues from heavy maintenance e.g., corrosion, vehicle condition
  • Produce weekly progress reports to all project stakeholders and a monthly level 3 status report to the Programme Manager, detailing issues relating to the projects and the actions that are being taken to resolve these matters. Identify areas where additional management support is necessary to resolve outstanding issues

To be successful in your role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in Rail/Rolling stock industry
  • At least 2 years project management experience
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of contractual obligations and operating lease agreements
  • Ability to understand and comment upon engineering instructions and drawings
  • Knowledge and understanding of vehicle maintenance and overhaul requirements
  • Project Management qualification (desirable)
