Interim Technical Accountant - Local Government

Cedar is recruiting an experienced Interim Technical Accountant for a local government client, who will play a key role in the financial year-end close for 2024/25. This role requires a fully qualified accountant with a strong background in local government finance and substantial experience in account closure processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the preparation of the Comprehensive Income and Expenditure Statement and Cash Flow Statement, as well as related notes, including the Expenditure and Funding Analysis
Ensure accuracy and compliance with financial accounting standards across all statements and reconciliations.
Conduct bank reconciliations and managing a Financial Accountant within the team.
Utilise in-depth knowledge of VAT, with specific expertise in the public sector's Making Tax Digital submission process.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Fully qualified accountant (e.g., CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent)
Significant experience in closing accounts
Proficient knowledge of public sector VAT accounting, including Making Tax Digital submissions.
Familiarity with CIS supplier processes is desirable
