Our client is looking for a highly experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee cost management and contractual aspects of a large-scale civil engineering project. The role involves managing the construction of a state-of-the-art warehousing system in the agricultural industry.
Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets and expenditures.
- Prepare cost estimates, feasibility studies, and financial appraisals.
- Conduct risk analysis and value engineering to optimize costs while maintaining quality.
- Manage tendering and procurement processes for contractors and suppliers.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Administer standard contract forms such as FIDIC and NEC.
- Handle contract variations, claims, and dispute resolution.
- Oversee cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor work progress and ensure compliance with budgets and timelines.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and stakeholders to align costs with project objectives.
- Prepare detailed financial and project reports for senior management.
- Maintain documentation of all project-related costs, contracts, and claims.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
- Lead and mentor a team of junior quantity surveyors and cost controllers.
- Provide expert advice on cost management strategies.
- Liaise with external consultants, government agencies, and industry bodies.
Key Skills
- Strong knowledge of contract law, cost management, procurement, and tendering processes.
- Excellent negotiation, report-writing, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in QS software and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Minimum of 10 years of management-level experience in civil engineering or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with local building codes, FIDIC contracts, and construction regulations.
- Experience in the agriculture and warehousing industry is an added advantage.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Master's degree is an advantage.
- Professional membership with relevant industry bodies.
