Our client is looking for a highly experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee cost management and contractual aspects of a large-scale civil engineering project. The role involves managing the construction of a state-of-the-art warehousing system in the agricultural industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets and expenditures.
  • Prepare cost estimates, feasibility studies, and financial appraisals.
  • Conduct risk analysis and value engineering to optimize costs while maintaining quality.
  • Manage tendering and procurement processes for contractors and suppliers.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Administer standard contract forms such as FIDIC and NEC.
  • Handle contract variations, claims, and dispute resolution.
  • Oversee cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor work progress and ensure compliance with budgets and timelines.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and stakeholders to align costs with project objectives.
  • Prepare detailed financial and project reports for senior management.
  • Maintain documentation of all project-related costs, contracts, and claims.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Lead and mentor a team of junior quantity surveyors and cost controllers.
  • Provide expert advice on cost management strategies.
  • Liaise with external consultants, government agencies, and industry bodies.

Key Skills

  • Strong knowledge of contract law, cost management, procurement, and tendering processes.
  • Excellent negotiation, report-writing, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in QS software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Minimum of 10 years of management-level experience in civil engineering or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with local building codes, FIDIC contracts, and construction regulations.
  • Experience in the agriculture and warehousing industry is an added advantage.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Master's degree is an advantage.
  • Professional membership with relevant industry bodies.
