Key Responsibilities

To maintain a high quality of care to children and young people which strives to continuously create opportunities to better their lives

meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and cultural needs of children and young people Working from the guidelines of the children's homes regulations and quality standards

To provide a caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which children/young people can feel secure and free from harm.

Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard

Helping young people manage behaviour by offering structure and insight into unacceptable behaviour and rewarding positive behaviour

Ensuring that each young person's care plan is followed and kept up to date to reflect their changing needs

Provide a home where young peoples daily needs are met in relation to childcare including cooking, cleaning, general maintenance around the home etc

To act as a key worker or co worker for a young person to ensure that the young person's care plans are up to date and that all their care needs are being met.

To provide keyworking support to young people on a 1:1 basis to enable young people to address past and present difficulties

To provide support for young people in their education this may include supporting them in the classroom if necessary

To maintain records and complete written reports on young people for meetings, reviews or care purposes

Empowering young people to be involved in their care and consulting them on decisions about their lives

Acting as an advocate at meetings where the young person is the subject of discussion

Encouraging the young person to enjoy a positive life within the community and take part in activities

Working as a Team

Working towards the aims and objectives of the home together as a team

Attending team/ staff meetings and making a positive contribution to them

To promote the development of young peoples outcomes and the team and homes outcomes through working together

Providing handovers and communication to the team to ensure the home provides a safe culture and environment

Updating childcare plans for all young people and working as a team to provide consistency in completing records within the home

Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions in line with the National Minimum Standards

Being familiar with all policies and procedures and developing practice in line with these

Attending training and implementing the learning from training within team practice

Responsibility for the accurate maintenance of financial records appropriate to the duties of the post

To represent in a positive and professional manner, ensuring that the team and home has a culture of professional practice and good communication with all professionals, visitors and family members

To adhere to whistleblowing procedures and report to the manager, or other appropriate person, any malpractice or evidence which may suggest it.

To attend supervision and appraisal in line with the regulations for children's homes

General Responsibilities

To be aware of and adhere to Health and Safety policy at all times

Adhere to and promote the Company's Equalities, Inclusion and Diversity Policy

To take part in a shift system for some of your working time, which will include evening and weekend working.

Special Working Conditions in line with caring practice

The care of children and young people requires a dedicated staff team that provides care to young people 24/7. At no point can children be left alone in the home without staff to ensure their safety and welfare needs are met

This role requires doing varying shifts, which include early morning and late evening work, sleep-in's, weekends as part of a rota and Bank Holidays on a rota system.

Additional payment is made for Sleeping-in

working flexibly may be requested on occasions and you may be asked to change your rota at a given notice as per your contract. This may also include covering an additional sleep-in duty as an emergency measure.

In accordance with the guidelines on Health and Safety, to accept responsibility for working within these guidelines and reporting any concerns to the Registered Manager.

To undertake such other duties appropriate to meet the needs of the home such as decorating, gardening in order to develop and maintain the quality of the home for young people.

This post requires the holder to have a clear Criminal Records Bureau check at all times Changes to personal circumstances which may effect this must be notified to your line manager immediately
