Role: Principal Mechanical Engineer, Building Services

We're looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer in the City of London!
This is an ideal role for a Principal Mechanical Engineer or Senior Mechanical Engineer keen to take a step up in the building services sector.
About:
Established in the 1970's, the company has grown into one of the largest independent multidisciplinary UK consultancies, with over a thousand staff operating internationally in over 30 cities around the world.
You would be working on a variety of projects, with leading developers and clients. This will include commercial offices, both refurbishment and new build, education, hospitality, large transport hubs, and redevelopments. They're currently working on several commercial offices with the remit to remodel and decarbonise, and the CAT B fitout of some of London's prime office space for blue-chip clients. They continue to have new build projects, including a major transport hub, a new-build Passivhaus school, and new offices in central London.
As part of their established team of expert engineers, and working closely with colleagues of various disciplines, you will prepare detailed engineering designs. You will work across a variety of sectors such as Education, Commercial, Healthcare, Industrial, and Retail. You will have the opportunity over time to assume greater levels of responsibility and autonomy as your professional skills develop, and will be supported towards Chartership if this hasn't already been achieved.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the production of engineering designs, calculations and specifications using appropriate software
- Supervise the production of technical drawings and check output
- Prepare technical reports in accordance with clients' briefs
- Technically sound work consistently designed and delivered, in accordance with agreed deadlines and budgets
- Working primarily under the supervision of more senior engineers.
- Work will be checked and verified by more experienced staff.
- Responsibility for those aspects of project management and/or design work specifically delegated to the postholder.
- May lead key elements of specific projects on a day-to-day basis, under the guidance and supervision of a more experienced team member.
- Informal mentoring of less experienced team members as required.
- Pro-actively managing own professional development within the framework provided by accredited training agreements.
- Undertake site visits to monitor the progress of works against specification, and highlight issues to the contractor, client and/or (internal or external) project manager as necessary
- Correspond with external third parties (eg clients, contractors, architects and/or manufacturers) regarding information and technical queries
- Delegate work to Technicians and/or Graduate Engineers as required, and provide feedback on completed work
- Maintain awareness of the performance of projects against agreed project plans and budgets, at a level appropriate to role
- Environmental and Health and Safety procedures
- Proactively manage your own continuing professional development (including, where appropriate, actively pursuing Chartership with an appropriate professional institution).
Requirements:
- Engineering qualification at Bachelor's degree level or higher in a relevant discipline
- Previous experience in an engineering consultancy
- Knowledge of relevant software packages, which may include IES VE, Hevacomp, and Revit.
- Demonstrable technical understanding of mechanical discipline
- Proven ability to plan and prioritise work to meet deadlines
- Demonstrable commitment to own personal and professional development
- Pro-actively working towards achieving recognition as a Chartered professional, or having already achieved this.
