Our client, a rapidly growing consultancy based in London, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer - Electrification & Systems to join their team. Specialising in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the rail sector, they have recently secured major projects in Control Period 7 (CP7) and anticipate significant workloads over the next five years, particularly in the Midlands.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and oversee the design of substations, switching structures, construction compounds, and lineside cable routes/structures within rail electrification projects
Manage technical delivery and ensure compliance with relevant railway and electrification standards, including NR/L2/ELP/27237 and NR/L2/ELP/27245
Work closely with clients, contractors, and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful project execution, meeting project goals and timelines
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
Ensure quality assurance and risk management are integrated into the project lifecycle, meeting safety, regulatory, and environmental standards
Act as the technical point of contact for clients and stakeholders, delivering technical presentations and reports
Review and approve technical documents, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications
Contribute to bids and proposals with technical insights to help secure new work

Job Requirements:

Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent
Extensive experience in railway electrification and systems, with expertise in designing substations, switching structures, construction compounds, and lineside cable routes/structures
Proven experience in major rail projects within the UK, ideally with exposure to CP5, CP6, and CP7 frameworks
Strong knowledge of Network Rail standards, specifications, and procedures related to electrification and power systems
Experience managing technical teams and leading engineering design on complex railway infrastructure projects
Ideal previous CRE (Contractors Responsible Engineer) experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure
Willingness to travel to project sites across the Midlands as required
