About the Role

The successful candidate will manage a broad caseload of debt recovery matters from initial instruction through to successful resolution. Clients range from SMEs and sole traders to large corporates and professional service providers.

This is a hands-on role that requires strong technical knowledge, excellent client care skills, and the ability to manage cases proactively and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of debt recovery matters from inception to conclusion.

  • Advise clients on all aspects of the debt recovery process, including issuing proceedings, obtaining judgment, and enforcement (e.g., winding-up petitions).

  • Liaise with clients’ internal teams to ensure effective strategies and communication throughout the process.

  • Draft tailored legal documents and correspondence in line with current law and best practices.

  • Represent and negotiate robustly on behalf of clients to achieve the best outcomes.

  • Coordinate all aspects of casework, ensuring timely progression and escalating issues where necessary.

  • Actively contribute to business development by building professional relationships and identifying new opportunities.

  • Maintain accurate time recording and meet billing targets.

  • Supervise and support junior team members including Solicitors, Legal Executives, and Paralegals.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including SRA, Lexcel, and Legal Aid guidelines.

  • Keep up to date with relevant changes in law and procedure, and proactively manage personal development.

  • Use case management systems and legal software to deliver an efficient and high-quality service.

  • Support the wider firm by participating in marketing, networking, and growth initiatives.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified solicitor with solid experience in debt recovery.

  • Strong knowledge of the debt recovery lifecycle, enforcement actions, and relevant legal processes.

  • Exceptional client care, communication, and negotiation skills.

  • Highly organised and able to manage a busy caseload independently.

  • A proactive mindset with a focus on solutions and client satisfaction.

  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior legal staff is an advantage.

  • Commercial awareness and a willingness to contribute to business growth.
