Railway Software Engineering Manager

Euston, NW1, UK

Company: CPR

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Are you experienced in Railway “software applications — Communication, signaling, and processing systems — Software for railway control and protection systems” ( EN 50128 ).  A client organisation, developing one of the largest high-speed railways is seeking a Senior Software Integration Engineer, who will inherit the strategy already developed and continue to work with the supply chain stakeholders as the project progresses to various contract awards, build and test.

As an experienced railway software developer, you will come from within this safety critical environment.  You may have only work on one railway system, signalling, rolling stock, communications etc but it is the gravitas and soft management skills that are required to remain on top of all the various software programmes being developed for a new operational railway.

It is a perfect opportunity for a railway software team leader, who knows how software in the railways is developed that can bring that critical insight to the client, and help programme manage the oversight.

This is a role believed not to be found in other new railways, and therefore considerable Qudos is attached, and the opportunity to further develop the systems and process to ensure that the various software will integrate smoothly.

Of course, it wouldn't be your responsibility to ensure all software, coding and systems deliver, that is the supply chains, rather you will be using your knowledge to strategically oversee the projects with the interests of the client at heart.

So maybe after ten years of developing software applications for railways, an opportunity to use that experience and knowledge, to think strategically around integration and have a bigger holistic vision of the project would be welcome?

The nature of this project means that only those with EN 50128 from the railways will have the required skills, due to the safety critical nature of such an infrastructure project.

As a clear aside I would be interested in those rail software developers that are not yet at this level of experience, who might feel that there skills could be transferable in the future as part of the team.

You may be focussed on one railway system, such as signalling, OLE, SCADA etc, and this represents an opportunity to project engineer the intregration of around 300 different software packages, you will focus on your core area of expertise, and how it interplays and integrates with the other systems and their software.
