Job Title - Customs Clearance Specialist

Location - Essex

We are currently recruiting for a Customs Clearance Specialist with experience in the freight forwarding and logistics sector.

Our client is located in the heart of the South East's shipping industry, specialising in the import and export of all types of cargo using multimodal methods—air, sea, road, and rail.

Key Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

* A proven track record of at least two years working for a small to medium-sized freight forwarder.

* Previous experience in processing and completing entries using CDS, including deep-sea ocean freight clearances or European road freight clearances.

* Confidence in navigating HMRC's online tariffs (UK online trade tariff and other .Gov resources) with a solid understanding of customs commodity codes and procedures.

* Knowledge of FTA, as well as an understanding of Origin and Preference.

* Experience with CNS and Destin8 (CCS-UK experience would be advantageous but is not essential). Our forwarding software is Multi-freight.

* Strong attention to detail.

* Excellent communication skills and a friendly personality.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

* A strong and dynamic team player.

* Excellent mathematical and English skills.

Key Responsibilities

As a Customs Clearance Specialist, you will:

* Being part of a team responsible for arranging a variety of import clearances for key clients, ensuring prompt processing to maintain a high level of service.

* Liaising with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain and provide the necessary information to process customs clearances accurately and compliantly, adhering to HMRC guidelines.

* Offering guidance to customers on importing goods into the UK, including advice on commodity codes, customs procedures, and general import requirements for the UK market.

* Ensuring work meets the standards set by an AEO-accredited freight forwarder.

* Raising invoices, including Duty and VAT invoices. Where required, providing manual calculations of taxes to help customers understand costs incurred from HMRC
