About the role
The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London and is led by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. MOPAC undertakes a broad range of statutory duties and works closely with the Mayor of London, Deputy Mayor and Metropolitan Police Service to deliver the priorities that will create safer London communities.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Advisor who understands and can demonstrate collaborative working, leadership, and integrity within the role, and strives to deliver outcomes we can be proud of as a team. This role presents an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC), where no two days are the same. We are seeking a highly motivated and politically astute individual to join a fast-paced team dedicated to improving the safety and justice outcomes for Londoners.
In this pivotal role, you will advise and support the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime in delivering the Mayor’s Police and Crime Plan, overseeing the Metropolitan Police, and driving forward a more effective criminal justice system and crime reduction initiatives across the capital.
What we’re looking for:
- Strong political awareness and an understanding of the criminal justice landscape in London.
- Exceptional communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders.
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
- A track record of working in a political, governmental, or public sector context would be advantageous.
Key responsibilities:
- Providing high-quality political advice to the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime on critical policing, crime, and justice issues.
- Collaborating with the Head of Private Office and Secretariat to effectively manage priorities, stakeholders, and workflows.
- Playing a key role in delivering MOPAC’s strategic objectives, ensuring the Mayor’s priorities are achieved.
- Engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders in policing, government, and the criminal justice sector.

Political Restriction
Political Restriction: under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (as amended by the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011), all MOPAC staff members will be politically restricted without the right to apply for an exemption.
Security Vetting Clearance
The successful candidates will be expected to undergo the necessary security vetting, which may take around eight weeks to complete. Applicants must possess the legal right to work in the UK and have resided in the UK continuously for at least the last three years.

Where are we based?
We have moved to a hybrid working model with office hubs at Union Street (near London Bridge) and Newlands Park (postcode SE26). On average, staff will work 1-2 days a week from an Office Hub, which may differ depending on the role requirements.
