About Us: Pertemps Education is working with a specialist school for Children with Social Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, graded good by Ofsted, and run by the charity Unlocking Potential. We have children in both key stage 1 and 2, class sizes are no bigger than five children, and all children have talented 1:1 Teaching Assistants.
Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team in an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) setting. The successful candidate will work primarily with non-verbal pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and will play a crucial role in creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Support the educational and personal development of pupils with ASD in a SEMH setting.
Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and strategies tailored to each pupil's needs.
Utilize Makaton to communicate effectively with non-verbal pupils, facilitating their understanding and expression.
Assist in managing and de-escalating physically challenging behaviors, ensuring the safety of all students and staff.
Foster positive relationships with pupils, encouraging social interaction and emotional regulation.
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to deliver a holistic approach to each pupil's education.
Monitor and document pupil progress, providing feedback to the teaching team.
Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in working with SEN pupils.Qualifications and Experience:

Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, preferably in a primary SEN setting.
Knowledge and experience working with pupils with ASD, particularly non-verbal students.
Proficiency in Makaton; training in additional communication methods is a plus.
Strong understanding of SEMH needs and the ability to manage challenging behaviors.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
