Our client is seeking an experienced NDT technician to join their team. This is a great opportunity to work with a company who have led the design, manufacture and delivery of aerospace products, services and solutions for over 50 years.

Role: NDT Technician
Location: Stevenage (Fully on-site)
Hours: Standard 37 hours across 4.5 days (working between 7-7 at business discretion)
Shift early and late shift 20% uplift 6am -2pm late 2pm -10pm
Salary: £36.00 per hour Umbrella
Clearance: BPPS & SC to start

Responsibilities

Note: Level 2 activities are a combination of roles and responsibilities from Level 1 inclusive.

Level 1 NDT Technician

Ensuring equipment is serviceable and, when required, calibrated.
Ensuring that items submitted for NDT inspection are in a suitable condition for this to be carried out.
Setting up equipment to required procedures.
Carrying out routine NDT inspection against documented procedures.
Removal of component etc. from test equipment on completion of inspection.
Leaving equipment in a safe condition when inspection is complete.
Ensuring all database logs and registers are completed at the end of every activity to allow for traceability of work.
Ensuring weekly work to list is communicated to the RL3 at the designated time/date to allow for adequate resource allocation.
Committing to development training to ensure Level 1 training is completed and documented to the required standard.

Level 2 NDT Technician

All responsibilities outlined under Level 1 NDT Technician
Interpreting results of NDT inspections and determine acceptability of items to the requirements of applicable acceptance standards and provide a sanction.
Liaising with interested parties where anomalies or uncertainty of the results of inspection are encountered.
To raise OR/NCR on the items they inspect if required.
Document/record the results of inspections in appropriate manufacturing paperwork.
Removal of component etc. from test equipment on completion of inspection.
Leaving equipment in a safe condition when inspection is complete.
Reporting any anomalies encountered with equipment or activities etc. to a Level 3 or Responsible Level 3 and/or Operations Manager.
Writing of work instructions (if applicable and certified).
To provide technical supervision to trainees/ Level 1 under instruction from the Responsible Level 3.

Training & Development Responsibilities

To ensure that all current training plans the individual is carrying out are performed to standards required by the RL3.
To develop skills across multiple methods and areas within the business to support operational activities.

Experience Required

Minimum of EN4179 L2 Digital Radiography - to be determined upon review. A lesser qualification/ experience is acceptable if a high level of similar industry experience can be demonstrated.
Appreciation of NDT techniques typical to Stevenage e.g., Radiography, Ultrasonics, Thermography, Dye Penetrant, Eddy Current etc.
Use of Windchill, P6, IPS, 3DX, Apriso or other similar systems
Understanding of NDT documentation to ensure instructions are followed correctly.
Driving NDT quality through review of processes and implementation of improvements
Time served NDT experience or apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications
Good understanding and detailed experience of NDT Engineering methods and work practices, including but not limited to:
Lean manufacturing techniques including 5S, root cause analysis and continuous improvement (Green belt).
Support to operations both engineering and NDT.
Manufacturing / Test processes for the space industry.
A background in an aerospace engineering/ NDT environment, preferably within the space sector
High level technical skills and relevant experience.
Procedures and process control.
Able to work offsite (UK and abroad) for undefined periods at short notice.
Work overtime and occasional shifts, as and when required.
Able to support out of normal hours work using the "on call" rota process, as and when required.
Team working and team leading skills.
Practical and proactive.
Process and Quality driven approach with high attention to detail.
High self-motivation and ability to deal with changing priorities on a multi project basis.
Good planning skills and process competence.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work with digital systems.
Previous experience of NDT inspection of assemblies and precautions would be a distinct advantage.
