At an exciting time of development and expansion for the company, our Store Construction department is at the forefront of ensuring the infrastructure is in place to facilitate our ambitious plans. You will be an enthusiastic, motivated, and hardworking Project Manager/Engineer who wants to develop national strategies. You will oversee their roll outs into Building Services and Sustainability specifications and manage related projects across Lidl GB. You will be part of the design team and will be responsible for creating the UK Corporate Building specifications.

You will be liaising with internal stakeholders and our external design consultants. You will require good understanding of legislation, regulations, and best practice to manage the development of M&E design into the standard store specification. This includes Building Management Systems, Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning, Lighting, Power & Public Health. Design implementations should consider practicality, buildability, cost, time & sustainability (e.g., embodied carbon, emissions & energy consumption).

What you'll do

  • Manage the strategy and implementation of Lidl’s sustainability objectives, including but not limited to: Solar photovoltaics, Electric Vehicle Chargers, BREEAM, Biodiversity, and Energy Reduction Measures.
  • Experience preparing and presenting business cases.
  • You will have a clear understanding of the technical requirements to manage and implement the strategies into specification and store projects across GB.
  • Manage and co-ordinate external suppliers and contractors to ensure best value for Lidl while building strong supply chain to support large scale and fast-paced rollouts.
  • Go out to market and complete competitive tenders to onboard new suppliers & contractors, taking responsibility for the entire tender process.
  • Regularly reviewing supplier and contractor rates against market changes and external factors.
  • Managing assigned project plans and deadlines, with regular reporting & presentation to senior management.
  • Preparing scope of works, budgets & regularly reviewing costs to ensure targets are met.
  • Working with internal stakeholders to prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reports on budgets and progress of rollout.
  • Developing Quality Assurance processes & guidelines to support regional construction colleagues to ensure adherence to processes.
  • Regularly communicating directly with construction managers on site to advise on your fields of responsibility.
  • Ability to develop tender documents and manage tender processes from conception to award, including detailed & technical documents, review proposals, developing scoring matrix and awarding contracts.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills

What you'll need

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree-level (or equivalent) education in a Building Services/Sustainability discipline or Construction/Engineering related.
  • Qualified to master’s degree is desirable.
  • Relevant practical Building Services design and/or construction experience
  • Demonstrated proactiveness, independent judgement & ability make informed decisions.
  • Ability to read, check, develop and implement construction drawings.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to varying topics.
  • Exposure to contracts management or site experience desirable but not essential
  • Management of internal stakeholder (including senior management) & external suppliers/contractors.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, specifically PowerPoint and Excel
  • The ability to multi-task and handle conflicting deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated clear and effective communication skills.
  • Equal comfort working within a team and on your own.
  • German speaking is advantageous but not essential.
  • Valid UK driving licence is essential for this role.
