We have a new opportunity for a Health, Safety & Fire Adviser to join our team.

About the Role:

The role of Health, Safety & Fire Adviser is to support an established team of health and safety advisers who deliver pragmatic, professional health and safety support to the Sanger Institute and further afield across Wellcome Genome Campus Limited.

You will be a fire safety expert, but preferably you will also have the competence and flexibility to support the wider departmental function and provide health and safety advice to support our Estates and Facilities Department regarding maintenance and building projects.

You will be responsible for:
  • Undertaking fire risk assessments
  • Completing Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations (DSEAR) risk assessments and compliance activities
  • Deliver training within your areas of expertise.
  • Liaising with the Estates and Facilities (E&F) regarding maintenance and building projects.
  • Assist, review and report on health & safety compliance across the organisation
  • Reviewing risk assessments and method statements
  • Carry out health & safety inspections in plant rooms, workshops and shared spaces
  • Manage accident & incident reporting
  • Attend and contribute to health & Safety meetings

We do this through providing the help, advice and support the Campus management require to effectively manage health and safety within their teams. Our team ethos is to be knowledgeable, engaging, approachable and pragmatic. Our key strengths are our diverse expertise in health and safety. From life sciences to construction and facilities, ergonomics to fire safety.

Essential Skills:
  • Qualified and competent to undertake Fire Risk Assessments and Inspections of occupied buildings and possess sound knowledge of Fire Safety Regulation, best practice and latest industry standards.
  • Knowledge of Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations (DSEAR) Regulations
  • Good interpersonal and written / verbal communication skills with a track record of advising and influencing, coupled with the ability to respond to a diverse range of situations
  • Positive, can-do attitude focused on looking for solutions
  • Proven proficiency to plan and prioritise work with the minimum of supervision working independently, or as part of a team
  • Competent user of IT in an office environment

Other Information:
  • Hybrid working - 3 days office based
  • Salary range in the region of £41,000 to £45,500
