Workshop Controller - Automotive

Bishop's Stortford, UK
Apply Now

Company: TAYLOR HAWKES LTD

Job Type: Permanent, FullTime

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum

We have quickly carved out for itself a reputation for delivering the best quality paint protection film installation service in the UK for luxury cars.

We are now looking for a motivated and competent individual to join us as our Workshop Controller.

The Workshop Controller will work very closely with the Commercial Administrator using both the WIP and Schedule Chart to manage production and resource allocation.

As space and resource is always at a premium - the ability to manage cars in, through and out of the business on time, on budget and above all - to the quality expected is key to this role.

To that end, a knowledge of PPF would be preferable as being able to know when a PPF technician is "pulling fast one" would be a distinct advantage.

That said, this knowledge can be quickly obtained over time by a competent manager but a knowledge of paint defects and how to fix them picked up from a management or controller position in a commercial, main dealer (Porsche, Mercedes, Audi, BMW) body shop would be ideal.

The Workshop Controller will be expected to complete the Job Sheet created by the Commercial Administrator on arrival of the car whilst ensuring all administrative and production essential are carried out on time and to quality.

From an initial inspection of the car on arrival to the wash/clean process and from allocating a PPF Bay and resource to managing the process through to departure - the Workshop Controller will be an expert "plate spinner" capable of keeping the business moving at all times.

All "PPF" applied to cars is taken from a digital "template" so completing a car is akin to a giant jigsaw. To ensure our templates are better than the standard version available to all XPEL clients - we adjust templates to reduce the industry standard "panel gap" from 5mm to under 1mm.

Keeping control of templates, filing those "approved" for use and printing/cutting the film for use by the technicians BEFORE the car enters the production bay is another essential part of the job.

Administratively, making sure that all parts of the process are recorded (from pics/video on arrival, to damage reports and selection / production of film from the right templates and recording of who did what on which job is key.

From the information on time taken, film used and mistakes made - we will be able to improve our process and cut costs so this role is vital.
