Job Overview: Lead Powertrain Design Engineer
As the Lead Powertrain Design Engineer, you will head the Transmission Design Team and oversee the creation of high-performance transmission solutions that maximize speed, efficiency, and reliability for their F1 cars. Reporting to the Head of Powertrain Design, you will be responsible for managing all stages of the design process, including initial concept development, detailed design, analysis, testing, and integration with other car systems.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead the design and development of Formula 1 transmission systems to optimize gear ratios, torque distribution, and overall car performance.

* Utilize advanced CAD software (such as Catia V5/3DX) to model and simulate transmission components and configurations.

* Collaborate with teams across aerodynamics, chassis engineering, and performance systems to ensure seamless integration of the transmission system.

* Stay up-to-date with the latest advances in transmission technology and apply new innovations to enhance the team's competitive edge.

* Oversee the Gearbox Dyno Testing Programmes, ensuring the design and installation of race-ready testing assemblies.

* Lead the transmission team to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality designs under time pressure.

* Occasional travel to the Power Unit Factory in Europe may be required.

Ideal Candidate: Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you must have extensive experience working in an engineering leadership role within motorsport, ideally within Formula 1. You will have excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to perform under pressure. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess:

* A Mechanical Engineering Master's Degree or equivalent qualification.

* Extensive experience with CAD software (e.g., Catia V5/3DX).

* Proven experience delivering complex engineering projects within motorsport.

* A deep understanding of engineering first principles and their application to F1 transmission design.

* Strong knowledge of how design criteria impact overall car performance.
