Head of Health & Safety

We are supporting a company based in Wickford who are recruiting for a Head of Health and Safety, paying you a salary of up to £65,000 DOE. This is a full time, permanent, office based position. Ideally you will be educated to degree level, and/or qualified to NVQ5/NEBOSH Diploma level.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Assist in the development and delivery of HSQE objectives and key performance indicators
  • Take the strategic lead in the management, development, and implementation of the Company's Health & Safety policy, ensuring the effectiveness for the business operational needs
  • Responsible for having an emergency procedure and ensuring staff are ready to respond if required to
  • Ensure that all Health, Safety & quality policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated
  • Ensure the completion and regular review of RAMS/SSOW
  • To oversee the CARES auditing of sites
  • Ensure full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained
  • Establish a structured programme of health & safety training throughout the Company
  • investigate and record incidents, accidents and near-misses, and report as appropriate, for example file RIDDOR reports, and recommended improvements implemented
  • Report on accidents, near hits and fire risk assessments as part of the executive board report
  • Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation

As with all roles of responsibility there will be additional duties set out by senior management or tasks that occur that will require your flexibility and proactiveness. You must be able to demonstrate the knowledge of Health and Safety compliance and requirements needed within a business. You must have a proven history of working in a senior health and safety position with experience of compiling policies and procedures, running audits and handling investigations when required.

As a Senior Leader you will be expected to be accountable for your actions and assist with encouraging others to work in the same way, ensuring the company culture is displayed throughout. You must be a people person with an ability to demonstrate understanding and supportiveness.
