Accounts Payable Assistant

We are seeking an Accounts Payable Assistant to join our Finance Control team. This office-based role is crucial for ensuring the efficient processing and payment of business suppliers, accurate invoice coding, and maximising cash flow. The successful candidate will manage the accounts payable function and provide accounting support, playing a key role in the financial operations of our company.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Posting invoices and credit notes in the Open Accounts system, allocating invoices for approval to the relevant manager.
  • Checking and processing staff expenses.
  • Preparing and posting payment runs (mid-month & end of month).
  • Completing daily bank reconciliations for both entities, ensuring all entries are cleared by month-end.
  • Allocating Direct Debit Payments in Open Accounts against the invoices paid on the account.
  • Supporting the team with treasury management and the audit process.
  • Developing supplier relationships to ensure all queries are resolved promptly.
  • Maintaining accurate supplier account reconciliations.
  • Providing insights, data, and reporting to key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Engaging in other ad-hoc projects, reports, and analysis.
  • Supporting the Finance Transaction Manager & wider Finance Team as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Relevant experience in an accounts payable or similar role.
  • Intermediate Excel knowledge (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
  • Familiarity with Open Accounts or similar mid-range accounting systems/General Ledger is advantageous.
  • Proactive and confident verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Initiative to explore issues and generate new ideas and processes.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously, prioritising tasks effectively.
