To lead, direct and manage all aggregates and asphalt (where applicable) operational activities within a defined geography within the Heidelberg Materials Aggregates and Asphalt Division's, and in so doing achieve agreed safety, environmental, financial, and operational performance levels. To constantly seek to improve existing performance levels, and to identify and then pursue opportunities for further business operational efficiencies and growth.
The main activity of the role involves leading, directing and managing a regional operational line management team in order for the region to achieve its performance objectives.
The performance emphasis for each of the core areas includes:
- Health and Safety: Operating to the highest level of health and safety objectives in line with Heidelberg Materials Health and Safety Plan. Action a plan of continuous improvement in this area.
- Environmental: Operating to the highest level of environmental objectives in line with Heidelberg Material Environmental Management Plan. Action a plan of continuous improvement in this area.
- Compliance: Ensure all statutory legislation and company regulations are adhered to with respect to all operational activities.
- Operations: Achieve optimum production levels in line with commercial activity at the lowest operation cost. Continually advance operational improvements to improve efficiency with the production functions.
- Network Optimization: Working with the logistics and commercial teams to ensure that internal and external customers are supplied from the most economic sources.
- Distribution: Working with the logistics function to ensure operational procedures are such that highest customer service levels can be achieved at the most efficient operational cost.
- Quality: Working with the technical function to ensure operational procedures are such that the highest quality levels are achieved at the most efficient operational cost.
- Business Analysis: Ensure all area operational management information is accurate, relevant and is used effectively to assist in the management of the business and progressing all profit enhancing opportunities.
In order for the day to day activities outlined above to operate effectively, the roles also involves a number of wider aspects, including;
- Business Planning: Work with the AGM to develop a five year operating plan in conjunction with the overall national business plan. Should work in conjunction with all other aspects of the business (sales, distribution, capex, SHE management).
- Resource Planning: Ensure the operational management team is adequately resourced and that personnel are trained and developed. Assets should be in place to ensure the business plan can be delivered. Ensure personnel are effectively developed to progress through the business and a succession line is in place to facilitate this activity.
- Production Planning: Ensure production and productivity is optimised to meet sales forecasts.
- Investment: Evaluate, prepare, and submit capital investment projects for approval. Lease with national fleet manager to ensure an adequate HME management plan is in place.
- Directing: Provide leadership to the area team, ensuring that operational goals and expectations are understood, and personnel are proactively developed.
- Controlling: Ensure operational control mechanisms are effectively implemented covering all relevant aspects (including Health & Safety, environmental controls, capex management control, revenue spend controls).
- Continuous Improvement Ensure that CI targets for continual business improvement are understood by your operations team and a culture of continual generation of new projects is sustained.
- Global KPI's: Ensure that data is provided to generate the Heidelberg Material Global KPI's and that benchmarking data provided to the business from the Global KPI team is used to generate OPEX, capex or change site management practices, or other business improvements.
- Champion a key function
Represent the south in one of these four areas. Health & Safety / Inspections, maintenance, conditioning monitoring / lean management / procurement.
