We are actively seeking a suitably experienced field service engineer, already working with similarly high quality heavy-duty 5-Axis CNC machinery, to join our small team of field service engineers to instal, service and respond to breakdowns. We are part of Maka Systems GmbH, and service customers throughout the UK and Ireland, in a variety of industries, working in plastics, composites, wood (joinery, doors, stairs), patternmaking and milling light metals (eg., aluminium extrusions for automotive and the construction industry).

The job description is outline below.

The role is for an experienced Field Service Engineer, based from Telford covering the whole of the UK.

The candidate needs to be located within 1 hour of Telford. (30 miles)

The job description is comprehensive, but we don't expect anyone to tick every box. Our emphasis is on experience. The candidate will ideally be familiar with heavy-duty CNC milling and/or CNC routing machines, be multi-skilled, and have a 50/50 electrical and mechanical skills, ideally with a background in Mechatronics.

The role includes routine servicing, but primarily we require someone with experience to handle:

Breakdowns (mechanical, and electrical), and be familar with Siemens 840D controls

Machine installations, new and used, to assemble, wire and power-up, and fully align and calibrate 5-axis machines

Machine upgrades, and retrofit new CNC controllers, panels and/or CPU's, and mechanical parts

Carry out tests, for safety, and cutting tests.

Train customers

Flexible Working hours, mostly daily, Monday to Friday. Weekend working is infrequent but is required occasionally.

The salary will be commensurate with their experience and the candidate will be fully expensed, and be paid for travel, meals, hotels. and all overtime.

Key requirements:

* Willing to work in the field, travelling extensively throughout the UK, often staying overnight

* Is physically fit, and capable of manually handling heavy motors and parts, as typical with heavyduty CNC machine tools.

* Read wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings.

* Understanding of electrical and pneumatic systems, industrial processing machines, and ancillary equipment including vacuum pumps, chillers, automatic tool magazines, and sensors (proximity switches, Baluff sensors, etc).

* Familiar with high-frequency 3-phase and low voltage single phase circuits and associated wiring and components.

* Understand and adhere to Electronic and Electrical wiring and regulations

* Capable of diagnosing, fault finding, and confirm root cause analysis.

* Familiar with CNC Controls and navigating for diagnostic purposes. (We use Siemens Simumerik 840D, and BWO.)

* Familiar with using dial gauges, precision levels and other alignment and measuring devices

* Mechanically Align machines and test to precise tolerances (eg., Position 0.05 mm/axis. Repeatability to 0.01 mm)

* Replace components and re-set the associated parameters

* Replace (or exchange) 3-ph servo motors and encoders, and power and CNC cards

* Eg., PLC adjustments, fine-tuning, is required.

* Be familiar with Calibrating 5-axis heads to high tolerance

* Align and level large-scale heavy-duty CNC machine tols, Meauring geometry, adjusting and setting.

* Align and level large-scale heavy-duty, precision CNC machine tools, measuring geometry, adjusting, and setting.

* Calibrate spindles, 3, 4 and 5-axis heads (“robot heads”), measure, test & set according to precise requirements.

* Skilled in using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring tools (dials, levels & gauges.)

* Familiar and capable of assembling guarding and machine enclosures, including interlocks, lighting, powered doors, etc.

* Full and clean driving licence.

* Capable of working alone, and in a team.

* Is punctual, good time-keeping, clean and tidy, honest, has a positive and willing attitude, is cooperative and keen to serve customers.

* Good communication skills (Contact with colleagues is daily, often remotely, electronically and via mobile telephone.)

* Knowledge and familiar with using 365, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel etc, on PC, laptop and smart phones

* Provide clear reports and instructions for ordering parts or further services.

* Completes paperwork clearly, correctly and efficiently, and submits reports etc on time.

* Capable of providing Hotline support and Emergency Call-out support as and when required.

Training will be provided.

Candidates with experience with other machine tools and CNC routers with other leading CNC controllers (eg., Fanuc, Heidenhain, etc.), are welcome.

Please note, PLC programming is NOT required. (eg., Siemens STEP 7) or CAD/CAM programming.) Specialist support is provided in these areas
