About us

Avencia Consulting are recruiting on behalf of a leading Bespoke & Specialty Reinsurer who have a newly created position on their Syndicate for a Finance Manager to join.

The role

The Finance Manager (FP&A and Syndicate) is responsible for management of FP&A activity within business with a particular focus on business partnering, and Finance activity for their Syndicate.

Key accountabilities

  • Manage syndicate finance activity undertaken within the business:
    • Management of expense and capital budgeting and tracking
    • Modelling of cashflow and balance sheet projections
    • Production of management reporting on syndicate financial information, including understanding Lloyd's and internal impacts
  • Manage syndicate outsourced finance activity:
    • Liaison with key external stakeholders and Members' Agents to meet organisational objectives
    • Review of data provision to outsourced service providers to ensure this meets requirements and standards
    • Review of actuals provided, and direction of further analysis and management action based on these
  • Manage production of FP&A output, both formal returns and management reporting:
    • Plans which consider the latest business input and external context with a focus on commercial drivers
    • Apply high standards of quality control and appropriate layers of review
    • Advocate for appropriate process improvements to improve automation and quality of output
    • Provide appropriate communication to all stakeholders
  • Pro-active cross-functional engagement to monitor plans versus actual:
    • Effective business partnering based on understanding of business context and emotional intelligence
    • Reporting tailored to different audiences based on understanding of business priorities and key uncertainties
    • Work with a range of functions to provide insight into the financial impacts of any business changes
    • Escalate and direct senior management attention and action appropriately
  • Provide business inputs to systems development, ensuring as appropriate:
    • Evaluation of options balancing technical and business requirements and constraints
    • Consideration of requirements and testing associated with business processes and user experience
  • Play a key role in the team culture of high performance and inclusion:
    • Agility in approach and appropriately directed constructive challenge
    • Provide mentoring/guidance/delegation/management (as appropriate) to other team members
    • Champion high-standards of technical excellence and knowledge sharing
    • Is inclusive in approach to communication and actively fosters a collaborative culture
    • New and innovative approaches considered to radically transform approaches and unlock value

Skills & experience

  • A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft suite of applications with expert excel skills
  • Detailed knowledge of insurance accounting including within the Lloyd's market
  • Communication to a range of stakeholders, including communicating objective challenge to the status quo
  • Agility to respond to changing circumstances and priorities, ensuring that output continues to be driven forwards
