Are you ready to take on an exciting role at our client’s brand-new research and development site in Milton Keynes? We are seeking a talented Network Engineer to support the establishment and growth of this state-of-the-art facility. Reporting to the IT Manager, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust network solutions that support innovation and excellence.
Hours: Monday to Friday, Hours TBC.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with department leads to assess immediate and future network capacity needs for the new site.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation on network configurations, mappings, and service records.
- Establish and implement policies, procedures, and training plans for network use and disaster recovery.
- Design and deploy network solutions tailored to the needs of a research and development environment, including LANs, WANs, and wireless networks.
- Research and recommend cutting-edge networking products, services, and protocols that align with industry advancements.
- Oversee the procurement and installation of hardware, software, and related IT systems.
- Work closely with vendors and contractors to ensure the successful delivery of network services and equipment.
- Configure and maintain VOIP phone systems and advanced audio/video systems for seamless communication and collaboration.
- Ensure optimal network performance and troubleshoot any issues to support critical R&D activities.
- Monitor and manage servers, workstations, and other IT assets to maintain high availability and security.
- Maintain network connectivity across all devices and systems, including telephony equipment and research-specific tools.
- Perform regular audits, backups, and security checks to safeguard sensitive research data.
- Provide user support and training, ensuring all staff can effectively utilize the network systems.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience, an associate degree with 4 years of experience, or 6 years of direct experience in network engineering.
- Proven experience in designing and managing LANs, WANs, WLANs, and WWANs.
- Expertise in network capacity planning, security protocols, and administration best practices.
- Hands-on experience with VOIP phone systems and advanced IT infrastructure in a research environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in high-pressure scenarios.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and using testing tools for network systems.
